I like that the way they created the bucket seats is by creating an elaborate rear center armrest system. It gives you the best of both worlds!

Looks like they're trying to leave the $45-$55k sweet spot and go up market. I have to laugh at this:

"The heritage of the MDX was at risk," says the Acura's global development leader, Tom Nguyen. "The vehicle was dangerously close to becoming mainstream. We had to go big."
Dude, you've sold over 1,000,000 of these things since it's debut. It's been mainstream for at least a decade.

Rolled my eyes big time at that.

That said, glad to see this got the big sunroof. I like the interior design as well. Acura could have something here.

Isn’t that just the middle seat folded down? According to C&D the seat is removable to convert it to captain’s chairs though.

I love that this heritage shot of all MDX generations looks highly unremarkable. Every Costco/strip-mall parking lot across the US, at anytime is filled with MDX's .

I suppose that's the only remarkable thing about MDX's. They still exist and outlived their BMW X5 and Mercedes ML equivalents.

This would be the main reason anyone would buy a Honda product over German anything. Acura will never have the prestige of The Ultimate Driveway Machine.

It looks better than current model but I wouldn’t spend Benz money on it.

I like it. This is probably the most upscale an Acura has ever looked.

I took that as them admitting the current MDX was barely any nicer (perhaps less nice in some instances) than non-luxury offerings like the Kia Telluride.

It'll be interesting to see if just the 3.0T models are going upmarket, or the whole lineup.

They own the $45k-50k 3 row spot and who would want to give that up?

Is that the 2022 Mazda CX-5 on the end at the right?
Americans hate EVs because they grew up with Power Wheels that were glacially slow, ran out of power in 20 minutes and took an entire day to recharge.

Bro don't tell Ross but the Telluride is pretty damn nice. The line between a loaded mainstreamer and a similarly priced vinyl seat "luxury" German offering is basically a dust cloud

Yes- that’s what I was saying. Nice that it is not a fixed center console. Gives you the center seat if you need it, or the feel of buckets if you want it.

There are at least two Acura interior designers on the Vortex. If you call them, they will come.

Those are some serious seat wrinkles.

That interior is very handsome, short of that protruding center screen.

The steering wheel is very SAAB-esque as well, with the whole 2-tone aspect. Easy on the eyes

Your favorite Ziemniak, hold the gravy.

When you buy an MDX you're not flying in Economy, but you certainly aren't flying Business Class either. I'd call this car Premium Economy. Don't get me wrong, I like the MDX, it's a nice enough car with generous space and strong reliability scores, but it's no Mercedes.

It's the same thing with a different badge. It's cute you think there is that level of differentiation in the car industry today.

I feel like it has more of a Volvo thing going for it

It's weird to me that they put the shift lever in the middle of the console. It looks like that space could have been utilized better if they had shifted the gear selector to the driver's side.

I guess that’s the because of the universal design direction
