It' was just making me paranoid driving it. every little noise the car makes I think it's going to explode. I'm just paranoid like that I guess.

edit: other thing was teh car had some rust and body issues and it made me hesitant to put a lot of money into it.
Sounds like you need a newer and nicer Matrix.

apart from the focus being known for being a lemon due to the auto trans issues, do they have any major issues?
      10k isn't bad for that.

my mom paid like 12k for her 5000 mile 2013 insight when it was like 3 years old. They're still selling for the exact same price in 2020 somehow.

I don't think the 2nd gen would work as it got quite a bit heavier and is basically a base Camry drive-train in XRS form.

yeah i'm not really a fan of the 2nd gen XRS. It's got the same 2.4 as the camry and scion Tc. I've driven both TC and camry in 6 speeds and they are not what I'd call a fun motor. Also the newer matrix only has a 5 speed and weighs closer to 3000 lbs.

I know that some people say they are prone to rust, but I'll cast a vote for the nicest manual Mazda3 hatch that fits your budget.

Not arguing with the fun to drive aspect of it, but a Fiesta is absolutely tiny inside compared to the matrix/vibe. Focus is even quite a bit smaller, those cars were incredible little cargo vans disguised as early CUVs.

      I’d go Mazda 3, either 2.5 Grand Touring from 2010-2013 or 2014+.

matrix also has really good rear leg room as well. It's surprising how big it is on the inside compared to something like a honda fit or even my moms insight feels a lot smaller. Cargo room on the insight isn't even close to the matrix though.

I did test drive a 2020 fit to get an idea on financing one but was less than impressed with the offer I was given so walked. That said, the car was super duper MEH. the main complaint is the NVH of that motor. It's gotta be one of the worst sounding, buzziest motors in any new cars I've tried in terms of just driving normally, ie just slowly accelerating and shifting at ~3000rpm. It was pretty annoying. Like I don't mind a loud motor but it just sounded buzzy and annoying.

nah want something else. Also the corolla XRS has a screwed up tune on the motor, lift engages 500 rpm higher and the motor makes less power. Also it has a smog pump and some other stuff, can't remember if they have drive by wire or not but meh. Just want something else.

Just get a 2015 golf. Prices are dropping on those guys. 1.8 turbo 5 speed.

Or do a 2017 Jetta. 1.4 turbo 5 speed. Lots of fun I recall when I test drove one.

A troubled Matrix is still more reliable than a newer Ford.

      200k+ car. 100% serious.
