"Audi has lifted the digital veils of the all-new A3 Sedan, now in its second generation.

We have already seen photos of China’s long-wheelbase version of the compact four-door model earlier this month, but now it’s time for the first official images and information. As expected, the new A3 Sedan is based on the latest A3 Sportback, adopting its fresh design, modern technology as well as new drives and chassis.

Underpinned by the updated MQB Evo platform, the new Audi A3 Sedan is 40-mm (1.6-in) longer than its predecessor, measuring 4,500 mm (14.8 ft) in total. The wheelbase remains unchanged, while the width has increased by 20 mm (0.8 in) to 1,820 mm (6.0 ft) and the height has increased by 10 mm (0.4 in) at 1,430 mm (4.7 ft). As a result of these changes and the lower position of the driver seat, the compact sedan is said to offer 20 mm (0.8 in) more headroom in the front and some more elbow room. The luggage capacity remains unchanged at 425 liters (15 cu ft), though.

There’s not much to comment when it comes to the styling, as the only change compared to the A3 Sportback is the sedan-style rear end – even the taillights are identical. The sedan is 150 mm (5.9 in) longer than the hatchback, which contributes to a more elegant profile and enhanced aerodynamics."

Nice job with the hood cut line.

I'd take it over the 2, just for that fact alone.

Headlights remind one of a Corolla and those air vents on either side of the instrument cluster looked very tacked on

That is just so ungainly in photos

Not bad. Too busy like most of Audi's current designs. Much better interior, although that frontal centre console is meh.

Off topic, but it has to be said: the 2 looks like a car in front of a funhouse mirror. The front fascia looks like it's grafted on from a car two sizes larger. And from this angle the tapering rear makes the back end look incredibly smaller than the front. I'm a huge fan of 4-door "coupes" but the swoopy styling just does not work on small cars. Designers can fit a long elegant arc from the roof line to the rear trunk lid on longer wheelbase sedans, but on short ones it just becomes cartoony.

Back on topic: I really really like this A3. It's almost over-styled. It was definitely influenced by the e-tron GT (my hands-down favorite EV design by any manufacturer thus far). I'm not expecting to get another screaming Giulia lease in 24 months like the one I have now, so this A3 is now high up on my list. How do we convince them to bring the manual here?

I really like how the door handle and the door trim are executed.

Seems like it's heavily influenced by the A3 Clubsport concept which is good, not a fan of the headlights and the air vents tacked onto the cluster but otherwise looking sharp. Interested to see what they do to the RS3. Seems like every new base version of the A3/A4/A6 lineup come out looking more aggressive that the outgoing RS models.

Looks good but headlights are oversized for the body.

The new A/CLA are still kings in interior design though.

I'm having a problem with the whole console as well. It just doesn't fit, never liked the Urus to really say I liked the interior neither...and that shifter? *sigh*

Do I like it more then the current A3 console? hmmm, I still like my Golf console over the two...

Should add, I hated the B9.5 A4/A5 (S4/S5) but it has really grown on me, so will need to wait till I see it in person

One thing about the dash - and my wife and I both noticed this with the new Q3 which is similar - is that it juts way out into the passenger compartment and is really pretty intrusive to the front passenger, more so than it looks.

It looks good with those big wheels. But just like the new A4, it's going to look silly with standard wheels.

Looking good. Still a big fan of the Lambo-inspired air vents, though admittedly they will look more at home in the hotter versions

While not perfect, I think it looks okay on the new CLA. It's incredible how much better job Mercedes did at designing that car than BMW did at their 2 series if you ask me.

Agreed. I will add that I hope it drives better than the new Q3, which has been getting average reviews.

Yeah, Mercedes' second go around with the CLA was very successful.

      The volume implantation seems worrisome

the bodylines look much softer and more elegant in the video/RL pics than the press photos

Black Optics package (to ditch the stupid silver accents below the headlights) and remove the idiotic Audi logo on the lower rear doors and it's perfect.

I wish we got the China LWB versions of cars like this.

Looks like it is going to have an STI inspired front fender vent. Not sure about that.

Idiotic is a little harsh, no? I guess you're not a big "historical nod" kind of guy.

Wow, impressed that even the basic model has such aggressive fenders. I like it. I wouldn't buy one, but it's nice looking.

Man that interior is such a huge leap over what we have now in the A3. It is filled with cheap feeling black plastic.

Excited to see this in person.

Oh, yeah, that's neat. You'd expect it to go all the way to the grill but lining up with the headlights really works.
