Started the job of replacing the struts, CV Axles and front sway bar bushings today. Strut went okay and is ready to put back together but the CV Axle came apart when we yanked on it and the inner cup will not come out.
Have tried the vice grip trick and they just come off the cup when we hit them with the slide hammer. Have dremelled slots through the cup in two places but the jaws for the slide hammer also come off without budging it.
I've soaked the top of it near the transmission with penetrating oil and am currently praying that this will eat enough of the oxidation to break it free in the AM but am not confident..
What's the trick? What are we not doing right?
