Usually, car companies introduce new engines with redesigns or major refreshes. Makes sense, after all, to have everything as "all-new" as possible. But the ancient Nissan Frontier is due to be redesigned in the next year, yet received a completely new engine and transmission for 2020.
The opposite happens as well, most infamously with the 2010 Mustang, which was a noticeable facelift, yet kept the old 4.0L V6 and 4.6L V8 until the new engines came for 2011.
So, name some other cars where a new engine was introduced a year before/after a redesign, but not at the same time.
