Nothing worse than a self inflicted parking lot hit, Sorry to see that, but now that you have the first "scratch" out of the way, you can quit worrying and just enjoy the car.

I'm going to go with $1200, Owner pays, and 1 week in the shop.

Rear quarters are some of the largest pieces of bodywork on a car.... also most expensive. I'd venture it could just be repainted and look good enough. Either way, not worth fixing. Just leave it, it'll happen again and then you'll be pissed you paid to have it fixed.
As for it not buffing out, a lot of that SHOULD buff out, though the dents and spots where it's clearly scraped through the paint obviously won't.

That exact phrase has been playing over and over in my head since approximately 8:55 p.m. last night. Nonstop.

The crappy part is I should have never been there. I picked up some Peruvian (lomo saltado) take-out and asked for no onions. Came home, discovered they gave me extra-extra-extra onions (seriously: no fries, just extra onions). Drove back, exchanged it. Damage happened on the way back. The even more crappy part is that I knew something was wrong as soon as I picked it up. I put it in the car and could smell something off as I drove home. Had I pulled over and checked, this wouldn't have happened.

What lomo saltado looks like from the place I got it:

Imagine all the fries replaced by onions. And then some.

Just sent pics off to a family friend with a body shop who did my sister's Tiguan's rear quarter for $350 (dent, scratches, broken bumper bracket and taillight). He told me this is going to be way more .

I knew you’d understand. I’ve done similar things (albeit not in a brand new car) and immediately thought “why did you do that? you idiot.”

Also, thanks. Now I’m mad because that looks delicious and I have no chance of getting anything like that near me.

There are TWO Peruvian restaurants open right this minute In Wisconsin. Stop making excuses

Vad didn’t mention that he was buying cigarettes when he met that little wall; therefore, smoking is VERY expensive.

That sucks. I've had some near misses when parked next to an island/wall/bollard. I get so used to being just parked next to another car, and sometimes these obstacles are so low you can see them easily, and you forget they're there.

It happens to everyone. It's what insurance is supposed to be for.

Did something similar to my GTI (same panel, in fact) pulling out of my own garage on Christmas Eve Luckily, there was no dent and the scratches 100% buffed out. My advice would be to take a buffer to it and PDR the rest. It'll probably get you 95% of the way there.

If it was a couple of years old, I think this is what I'd do, 100%. But it's brand new!

Also, give the pretty sharp crease in the dent, I bet PDR wouldn't work so well.

My wife backed into our trash cans in her new Tiguan.....creased the quarter right where it’s on the wheel well line... probably would have been fixable by PDR, had the paint not cracked out in it.. underneath where it meets the bumper... ...

This is why you can't have nice things. But, blame it on the onions.

I'm going to guess $1500-2000. And I'm sorry it happened to you...
