The itch. Its strong and unrelenting. $45K to $55K budget.

Cliffs - I have been obsessing on RS3s after the CTSV prices are holding. Drove an RS3 and now I want one, but it is a dumb choice?

Lets start with the facts on the current DD car:

      • I love my Infiniti M45. It has a wonderful engine, truly fantastic.
      • The Infiniti has been cheap to own when I dont ask the dealer to work because I am lazy and bad with money.
      • I have started carpooling so even though the mileage is questionable it only needs fuel once a month.
      • I buggered up a fender in a accident. The yard guys put a deep scratch down the side. Paint is failing on the spoiler. Front suspension needs to be completely rebuilt (stock with 80K miles on it).
      • Could use a windshield.
      • Drivers side seat heater is slow to respond/heat.
      • Dip function on the drivers side mirror if batsh!t.

As I mentioned the itch is strong. Here is what I want to do:
      • Have a new daily driver with modern tech
        • Adaptive cruise (stop and go)
        • Heated seats/wheel
        • Blindspot stuff
        • Rear traffic
        • Parking assist/sensors
        • Android Audio
        • Mirror dip in reverse

      • A new daily driver which has some uniqueness/rarity to it
        • Yes, this is subjective
        • I want to see it in my driveway and be excited to drive it

      • Something CPO or available with a good aftermarket warranty
      • Something engaging, fast, loud, angry

Here is what I am thinking, bolded first choices:
      • Audi RS3 (2017 to Early 2018 the screen has to fold down when in drive and have the DAP package)
      • BMW M2
      • BMW M3
      • BMW M6 (last gen)
      • Audi S6
      • Alfa 4 cheese

Here are the stretch goal cars:
      • Caddy CTS-V with the badboy supercharged 6.2L
      • 2011 plus C63 AMG with the P30 dev package

Here are the truly terrible car ideas:
      • C5Corvette Z06
      • 3rd gen MR2
      • 90s CRX SI
      • Mustang GT350 (stripe delete only)

And here is the HUGE RUB - The 930
I have made my mind up about shipping it to TurboKraft. That bill has the potential to creep past $20K if I go for the full turn key 500 to 600whp package. There are still 3-4 more hail mary's i can try with the car which might be the plan this spring. But obviously doing both a new DD and the Porsche is pretty far fetched financially. So you sort of have to choose. Both the 930 and Infiniti at this point cost zero dollars to own. This choice is killing me.

      Questions
      • I test drove a RS3 and it gave me the fizzies. Finding the spec I want is appearing to be tough though.
      • The M cars at the price point I am looking at are pretty low on the tech I care about in a DD
      • I really want the Caddy but its price point is somewhat ridiculous when you want a good spec

      So what would you do.
      1. Keep the Infiniti and stash cash for the 930
      2. Ditch the Infiniti for something more modern and fun, keeping the 930 on the backburner
      3. Keep the Infiniti and give it a good maintenance refresh

Have you driven the 4 Cheese? It gave me the fizz unlike any other modern sedan, including the F80 M3 competition and the M2. Things like the super fast steering and engine noise make it a fun experience at any speed, much more so than the F80, imo, reliability be damned.

I'd sort the 930 before I'd make a DD choice. Get the forever car ready and then play with a new DD.

Not bad advice from the Lotus with a warranty guy.

      You are definitely not wrong.

As far as I know there is not in mid-late 2018s. Has to be a early 2018 without the MMI update.

But if someone could code the change out......

Nice car but not into black and its over budget. Looking for anything but black, silver, nardo. Preference is blue or white. Misano red would be interesting or the PTS cars with Porsche Viper Green....

Option wise though its pretty perfect.

Definitely drive the Quadrifoglio asap. You’ll want that more than an RS3. The Alfa is sensational.

This would be a killer spec if it didnt have the fixed suspension.

I casually looked at the Golf-R. I want something that has the torque feel off the line as the 4.5L in the Infiniti. I know thats it pretty impossible to do that without the V8 but the Golf needed to have it neck wrung for it to react. At least in my opinion.

Considered a number of these choices for a new DD last fall..

Ended up going with a 2017 M2 over RS3 and C63. However I do note that the M2 is light on the tech stuff that OP wants. I'm pretty sure there is no blindspot monitoring or Adaptive cruise for the M2. I didn't check for that kinda stuff because I won't use it. Understandable to want if you will. I chose the car based on its size, the fact that I wanted a 6MT BMW coupe in a small-ish size after having a tremendously great 128i daily like that. The C63 is larger than I'd want driving around over here. RS3.. there are a number of reasons it didn't make a serious consideration. Probably #1 reason is that I don't need AWD, and therefore I wouldn't buy a car with AWD since Audi AWD is not fun for their transverse platforms. My main want for my DD was a fun car, small, modern, manual gearbox preferably, RWD preferably.

Its aweseome to have the toy car fully sorted but its the DD that you work with every day. For me that took precedence over spending some more money on my fun/forever car. I had a few things I wanted to do with the 911 at the time I was making the DD choice (not $20k worth, but maybe $13k or so) but decided to put the money into the daily since I can take my time getting that car 100% how I want since 1. It is not my daily 2. I have a fun car to drive as a daily so its not like the 911 is my only driving enjoyment outlet

This seems like the sensible thing to do.

What about a Chevy SS or just doing some upgrades to the Infiniti after the 930 upgrades?

EDIT: ooops, OP wants gadgets so maybe the SS doesn't fit that bill!

Get the new one from the TCL enabler and hope one of the Hail Mary's works.

If it doesn't enjoy the RS3 for the year then ship the 930 off in 2021.

Wow, quite a difference in your choices. Reminds me of my list!

I would second driving the Giulia QV, I thought it was fantastic. I also have been drooling over the 4c, found one in white with red interior that has me all hot and bothered.

In the end, if the CTS-V is what you want, you'll always most likely want it. Don't settle.

I guess I've never driven a truly fast car because driving my new R 6MT feels down right hyper to me, both in terms of speed and reactions off the line. Last night I was thinking it's maybe too hyper for street use, it just goes, all the time. I'm also having tons of fun driving it, and it pains me to say this, but I might find it more fun than the 987.2!

How much practicality do you need? I think the M2 would be a hoot, but it's not a very practical car.

Getting a used Alfa Quadrifoglio seems like a recipe for disaster. If you said you were ditching the 930 and the Alfa would be the play thing car then I think that would make sense, but as the daily???

      RS3 would be my vote.

What's the story with the 930? Is it broken and unable to drive? Or is it a decent driver, but you want to blow it out into something far more engaging? I mean, if you go with a 500+hp 930, you've got everything you're looking for in a daily except the tech (which is the really the point anyway). Depending on the situation with the Infiniti (reliability and service requirements), I might go with upgrading the 930 and moving to a used mkVII GTI (or maybe mkVIII depending on costs and features).
