driven a few as rental cars through work. As stated, it feels like a cheap rental car. If you are just looking for decent transportation, at 12k with warranty it fits the bill. I can speak for nissan reliability now, but this should certainly be fine though the warranty period and pay off of 12k

I would say no if they tried to give me this at Hertz and I only had to drive 30 miles in it, but if you want to go through with this, I'd offer them $10,500 and see if they want to play ball.

I test-drove a manual Sentra in 2017 and it felt just like a 1990s Corolla. It's just good enough not to annoy you, but not good enough to impress you -- competent, but bland and unrefined. For $12k it sure beats a Mitsubishi Mirage or a base-model Versa, Accent, or Rio, but it surely won't beat any good $12k used car.

Whatever you do, don't get a CVT model without a good extended warranty.

For $12k you might be able to find a leftover Fiesta. The dealer here was blowing them out for $9995. With a manual transmission a Fiesta will at least show signs of life.

Nissan makes some horrible cars right now, I dont know why anyone would buy any of their models besides they are cheap and will finance anyone.

I recall having a Sentra as a rental car not terribly long ago. I can't even recall what trip I was on, where I went, or why. All I can remember is how unbelievably ****ty the Sentra was, and what a punishment it was to drive it. The engine was horrible, the transmission was horrible, the seats were especially horrible, and the interior was dreadful. I'm thankful I'm at a station in life where I don't have to drive one.

$12,000 is $11,500 more than I'd pay. At $500 I'd think about it, but would likely still pass.

Yep, I had one as a rental a couple times last year and while it was, as posted by others, far from a pleasant experience, with how much room there was inside and it being cheap reliable transport, I'd be lying if I did not consider picking one up as essentially an appliance and giving it to my son when he is old enough to drive as his first car.

This is very compelling value compared to $699/mo to switch between an Altima and a Rogue.

If you were going to give it to me for free I’d probably have a long thought about whether or not it was worth the driveway space.

      And then turn it down.

Big no from me. Used Corolla, Jetta, Elantra is a better choice.

You can get a preowned SR Turbo for a thousand more, but Sentra, bottom of the list for me. I'm considered an Elantra Sport preowned

Eh, my main thought is that a 2020 is a wholly better vehicle (albeit more expensive).

By the way, it's really funny to see people acting like a used Corolla is so much better. It doesn't drive any better and the interior sure isn't.

I had a similar decision almost two years ago.
Local Hyundai dealer had three new base manual 2017 Elentras (in mid 2018) on the lot for $11,200 each.
The day before I decided to test drive one they shipped them out.
      Maybe that was a blessing.

Is it just for you to commute in solo or do you need room for others?

Can you splurge a little and get a Mazda2/Yaris? They are at least fun to drive with a willing chassis/suspension unlike the Sentra which is roomy but decidedly un-fun.

They are also blowing out Fusions for $14-16k which would be a lot more pleasant than a Sentra

You could probably buy and rehab a turn-of-the-century SE-R Spec-V for 12k and have a much better time.

If they're legitimately that cheap this would be my choice. Fusions are excellent cars and even these base models appear to have a ton of features. I actually clicked one of the cars on that page and came across this Fusion S for $16k...

      https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...1934/overview/

In addition to good standard features like A/C and Bluetooth, this car also appears to have the "Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist Package with SYNC® 3" which means a big infotainment screen, dual zone climate control, screens in the gauge cluster, navigation, and adaptive cruse control with stop&go. That last one is a big deal for me as these systems are amazing in traffic jams although that might not matter to OP. In any case, that's a ton of car for the money. Sure it's not $12K, but man you get so much more.

Not getting rid of. Wife's car got totalled and need to replace it. But I've decided it wouldn't work. Hell the RAV barely worked for longer trips anyway. Probably need a van.

Not that I've ever had an issue with a dealer just removing that BS, but I hope someone somewhere has threatened to test the chemical makeup of the air out of the valve.

I bet if you did, you'd have one hell of a class action lawsuit over it
