Wouldn't the transmission need more than just the clutch after an event like that?

the transmission is the least of his worries in that video. not sure what a new S55 costs, but it's got a replacement one now.

i money shifted my spec car on track. top of third, into 2nd instead of 4th. engine spun up over 10krpm (based on where i saw the needle), and it seemed fine ... 2 laps later it dropped a valve. failed retainer.

so, i had the head repaired, sanded the dent in the piston flat, and ran the engine for another season. cost me about 500 bucks total

Ooof that video is rough. When I shift from 3rd to 4th, I move my hand so that my thumb is down and my pinky is up, palm on the side of the shifter, so when I pull back quickly any mistake will get me 6th instead of 2nd.

The transmission isn't the problem when you money shift. The issue is that you can momentarily rev the engine to 9,000-10,000+ rpm's. This usually results in valve damage at the least, and a replacement engine at the worst.

Hope that guy has the money for a new engine. The S55 we purchased was ~$22K with a 10% discount.

Got lucky in my GLI once going from 3rd-4th but wound up in 2nd. Something didn't quite feel right so I didn't totally dump the clutch pedal which allowed the clutch to take some force and slow everything down just enough to wind up bouncing off the limiter. scary moment though.

      Ooof.

I've (almost) done this maybe two or three times since the '90s. Fortunately each car had slow-ish synchros that wouldn't allow this kind of thing without a little warning, like "are you sure you want to press through this resistance?"

Sweet baby Jesus, this looks more like 20,000 rpm instead of 10,000.

I've gotten close to money shifts in the past, thankfully my brain computing the wrong slot selected and subsequent recovery before I fully let the clutch out.

Kind of looks like it was a euro delivery and he wasn't used to the car yet. But yeah I don't really get it either...must have taken some serious force on the shifter there. Oh well, good luck to the driver.

Same. Always shifting away from previous gears.

dunno man. any time I have ever shifted improperly the loud and jarring feeling of grinding the gears has immediately clued me in to whatever im doing is wrong so its pretty crazy the dude just forces his way right through that.
