Fine by me. Can we get him to sign them all by hand? Keep him busy so people with actual knowledge can work on these problems.

Why not? It's probably the best time to go after this is all over.

Buy when there is fear on the streets. Surely they will be offering great deals going forward as they know full well the entire industry's image is hit hard.

Just don't go during flu season when most of this stuff gets passed around. Bring a couple of N95 masks when you can buy them again. Bring hand sanitizer. Done.

Worse comes to worse and you're stuck in a quarantine, then get fed free food and offered extended cruising. #winning

Same with car payments, credit cards, etc. All people have to worry about are the basic utilities and food. Unemployment might cover that. Maybe.

This check for $1200 though? That’s not going to do anything.
      No, no it's not.

Is it weird that I'm thinking about refinancing my mortgage given all the **** going on?

I don't blame them for being confused, the way it's explained. Not everybody reads well enough to sort through a lot of this mumbo jumbo, if they did try to read it.

The Bank of Canada reduced the prime lending rate to 0.25 percent on Thursday night. My variable rate mortgage with my bank is down to 2-percent. Crazy!

I think what's going to happen is you're going to have a particular group of people "in the middle" getting jammed up that the $1200 won't help that much. Obviously it helps very low income families and is inconsequential to higher incomes.

But I've been speaking with a lot of retail and service industry workers the last few days and they seem like the ones who are going to fall through the cracks. Most of them have already been out of work for 2 weeks now and rent's coming up at the first of the month. Several of them were already resigned to the reality of having to break their leases and either find a roommate situation or move back in with their parents.

Obviously that's not the end of the world for those people, but it's a vital part of the economy getting left behind.

I think the amount and income limits of the stimulus are probably designed to help people in places like CA, IL and NY as little as possible since they aren't Trump's people. Just like he doesn't want to help governors who don't grovel at his feet or heap him with praise for their emergency medical supplies.

Radiology is just imaging for diagnostic purposes. Radiation treatment is bombarding the cancer with particles to kill it.

I went through a round of radiation for my prostate about 6 months ago and every time I went I would joke about getting my ass blasted. They never laughed though, guess they'd heard it too often.

I think the timeline is as follows:

      Rumor mills swirling in December.

Early Jan 2020, China and the WHO declared to the world the discovery of a novel coronavirus found in patients with respiratory illness. The entire genome of SARS2 was already sequenced at the time of the announcement by Chinese scientists and that genomic information was also immediately released publicly to scientific databases allowing for targeted diagnostics to be developed by anyone in the world.

The viral genome was also independently sequenced by the French @ the Pasteur institute in late Jan 2020 once the French got suspected cases themselves. Findings by the Pasteur Institute will serve as their European standard.

In between the announcement by the WHO and the French sequencing the virus themselves, German scientists had proposed a diagnostic test for the virus based on what they knew about other bat coronaviruses and SARS1 and MERS.

The tests they proposed were RT-PCR assays that amplify and then detect certain genetic sequences of the virus. The sequence they initially selected for the test was based the E gene (envelope gene) that detects the portion of the genome that codes for the viral envelope. In other words, the genes responsible for the S proteins found in coronaviruses.

This initial test is in a sense generic, meaning it will test positive for a broad range of multiple similar human or bat coronaviruses. However, since SARS like coronavirus infections are not common, it stands to reason it is a reasonable test. So while testing positive for the E gene with PCR may not mean you 100% have SARS2, but the fact you're showing anything ain't good either way, aite? Cuz it might mean MERS or SARS1 or something nasty. But it's probably SARS2 anyway since that's what's going around now.

Once the French also sequenced the genome, they proposed a second more targeted "confirmatory" PCR test that targets the RdRp gene sequence that is specific to SARS2.

Other scientists will no doubt develop other testing standards and protocols themselves.

Noteworthy to mention is that they are not targeting the entire sequence when they test you. They only test for the presence of a small segment of the viral genome. After all, viruses mutate and being anal about 100% genomic match will yield false negatives for everyone else as the virus continues to mutate.

And then further full genome sequencing found there are a few strains being passed around in actuality. Hence the mention in the media about the L and S strains etc.

      Yes, please.

Finally have a day off today.

Performed more testing yesterday for about 5h then was a "runner" for the ICU for 8h. Hospital is almost empty, especially what few surgical patients we had. 2 Covid positive left, both in ICU, one is turning positive, the other is still hanging on. Supplies arrived Thursday including PPE, etc. Am not sure if I mentioned that partly because I wasn't sure what day today was until I realized I wasn't "there" (at work). Took a long way home last night, sat at the Port a while. Hand-hunting geese is neither easy nor recommended. Slept like a puppy last night and this morning. Enjoying family time today like crazy. Numbers are exponentially worse, but not to deniers. Thanks for those of you sharing good info on here for everyone else. Ok, I'm off to make a usually annoyed teenager giggle or at least have a conversation.
