So we got some snow last Saturday and while "driving through" an empty business park with a healthy coating, I slammed the curb, twice. Front left rim is broken, rear rim is very badly beat up, tie-rod was dragging, no steering and a bunnnnnnnch of lights on the dash. I'm sure there will be more once the car is on the lift. It is worth maybe $10K. Is it totaled? Adjuster comes today, so we will see.

Dang. Must have been carrying more speed than usual parking lot pace. Well, best of luck either way.

You failed to mention if there is load cam knock. That'll help with the calculus.
If you are going at a speed that causes you to run off the road before ESC can provide any assistance, you may not experience the benefits of ESC

It't not a parking lot, but a road through a bunch of businesses with low/zero traffic on the weekend, but yes I was.

Looks somewhat familiar, my son had a bad habit of running into crubs. I'd guess 3.2k range if its just suspension damage.

Were you drunk? I dont understand the accident. How can you slam a curb twice?

Either way, im gonna go risky with this one and say because it is 10 years old : TOTALED

Need new rim, tire, tie road, probably control arm, brake lines/abs probably got ripped out and could have sub frame damage. You done ****ed up boy

from the pictures it just seems like some suspension work needs to be done and 2 new wheels, but that's just on the outside.

Was screwing around in the snow, sober, and got a little too confident. Back end wouldn't come back around for a right hand turn and slammed into the curb, bounced off, and hit the curb again further down the curve. Yep, I agree, real dumb move.

Adjuster just left. He's going to come up with his estimate first before even having it towed to the shop for repair, so you guys might be on to something.

Ah I see the spacer in the picture now, it sure is a nice looking car. Hopefully its just suspension pieces and you can get it back on the road quickly.

Found this in local Facebook marketplace : 4 - 19x9 Peelers for sale; https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...8587033230488/

I applaud you. If you're going to break a wheel, at least you REALLY broke a wheel.

    21. 01-23-2020 02:05 PM #20
I've done this. I didn't break any wheels, but I did crack the subframe, and the wheel/hub assembly broke off the knuckle.

I'm guessing 5-7k in damage, assuming no subframe damage. I think they will fix it if there is no body damage. Suspension components are simple bolt on affairs. Probably screwed an ABS sensor and or brake line too. Those two things will cause almost every dash light to come on outside of the CEL.

      I doubt that it's totaled.

I'll guess it needs two wheels, steering rack, inner/outer tie rods on one side, one spindle (you sheared the tie rod mount clean off--impressive), 1+ control arm and maybe 1+ shock. I'll guess $5500. The dashboard lights are probably because of (among other things) a failed steering angle sensor in the rack which is unlikely to be replaceable and the biggest ticket item.

That said, is the car 6MT or DSG? Ms. ghost will kill me but if it's totaled and 6MT I might be interested in buying it from the insurance company...with junkyard parts and my own labor I think I could have that running right for <$1k.
