And for the right price, and it would have to be reeeeaaaaallllyyyyy right, I'd still drive a 4 pot GTS. When I say priced right, I mean like, almost nothing.

Wow, great not-so-humble-brag! A $120,000 TFSA is quite the accomplishment.

This is a great move by Porsche, flat 6 with no turbos, 7800rpm, 6MT, what's not to love?!? (Other than the high belt line, 20" wheels, sharp character lines? )

The market is already really soft on 718s in general (yay for us secondary buyers) but this will soften the GTS even more for sure.

Wait, mine's nowhere near that high even though it's maxed out. I mean Trump has been good to my stocks, but not THAT good. I'm still under six figures.

If you had read my whole post, I stated that anyone trying to dump a '19 GTS after the GTS 4.0 comes out is likely going to be having a bad time. I think that's a pretty uniform situation whenever you're trying to sell a ~1 year old vehicle though.

Beyond that I don't see this changing the resale market for 718s to any meaningful extent. The '18-19 GTS will continue to command a premium over the S, which will command a premium over the base car. I just don't see someone in the market for a used 2.5T GTS cross shopping a new GTS 4.0 when the prices aren't likely to be remotely in same neighborhood. We'll ultimately find out what happens to resale value over the long term I guess...

I have a suspicion that many folks with strong negative opinions on the turbo 4 haven't actually driven one. Though it will certainly end up sounding better, but I'm not sure the GTS 4.0 will end up being meaningfully (or any) faster than the 2.5T GTS.

With regard to the GPF, the North American GT4s don't have them, so I'd assume the GTS 4.0's for North America won't get them either. Car and Driver had a blurb in their GT4 article on how the North American muffler uses the same stamping as the euro muffler, but ours just lacks all/some of the GPF hardware.

This, I did the Porsche driving experience in LA in a Cayman S with the 4 and it was plenty fast and 2 second into it I didnt care what engine was behind me. Sure on paper and sound the 6 is going to be better, especially for the purists, but the 4 did not change the fun factor or driving experience 1 bit.

The new two-seaters are powered by the same 294 kW (400 PS; 718 Boxster GTS 4.0: Fuel consumption combined 10.8 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined 246 g/km; 718 Cayman GTS 4.0: Fuel consumption combined 10.8 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined 246 g/km) four-litre six-cylinder boxer engine that is used in the 718 Spyder and the 718 Cayman GT4.

That's just it. The media and forum folks are quick to dismiss it because someone somewhere told them it sounds like garbage. Ok, cool, but have you driven one? Rhetorical question, because we know the answer is no. You won't even know it's a 4-pot behind you once you are actually pushing it. Also, unplugging the SOUNDAKTOR makes a *HUGE* difference in regard cabin sound. The actual engine sounds pretty nice when it isn't dubbed over by that awful fake sound.

The wheels are too big for my taste, too, even if I love that Boxster Spyder design. Maybe these in 19" instead?

On a daily driver like my Audi yes on turbo 4 but on a car you buy to savor like a Boxster/Cayman, absolutely not.

Even if the power curve is more usable in more driving conditions vs the previous flat-six? For me, that was the deciding factor. Outside the sound, every bit of it was a better drive in the 718 vs the 981.

For some (me) it isn’t about cost, investment preservation, fuel consumption, power, torque, whateveryouwanttoputhere....
      It’s about the noise a Flat6 makes.

I can 100% say that the fun-factor if the 4cyl GTS would be nuts
      But I need the noises.

      Two items:

Autoline said the n/a 4.0 is an Inline-6. Does that make sense?

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2b_mYJm7Rak
      (go to 1:43)

And since the n/a 4.0 is a GTS performance model, shouldn't Porsche call it a Turbo?

They misspoke. An inline 6 wouldn't fit in the engine bay.

The only downside to this car is that I think you're still going to want the Sharkwerkes lower gears, just to redline that engine more often . . .

I wonder if Ferrari is feeling the heat to bring back an NA V8 as well? Porsche clearly got an ear full on their turbo all the things strategy . . .

Look at the oldest car in my sig and you'll see I don't value optimal power curves and mathematical perfection in my choice of fun car.

I would argue that Porsche and Ferrari aren't really competitors in the sports car space. Price wise the 488 starts where the 911 ends. People only buy Portofinos to get on the list for the good stuff.
