The 2020 IndyCar season is upon us. Old, venerable names are gone, with new talent from all over the world. This thread is for all things IndyCar (not F1).

      - New Penske ownership
      - McLaren's return
      - New small teams
      - New Aeroscreen
      - New Drivers
      - SeaBass, Hinch, and Pigot are out (for the time being)
      - Richmond added in place of Pocono
      - New rules for specific tracks/situations
      - Still no new OEM (2022 hopefully)

I think the new aeroscreen would have looked better if they followed the angle of the nose. Otherwise I definitely prefer F1's solution to this issue

Luckily it's only a stop-gap solution until next year where it will be part of the new chassis design.

      Here's a curve-ball I didn't see (or hear) coming:

Alonso in final talks w/ Andretti for the 500. I wonder how Michael sweet-talked Honda/HPD into making things right for the deal to work?

and now Kyle Busch has been given the green-light by Joe Gibbs to run the Indy500, but it MUST be in a Chevrolet powered car.

I am actually excited for this. I have Hulu Plus, so I can actually watch the NBCSN races.

I was wandering down the racing-reference.info rabbit hole this morning and landed on this. I didn't realize 1996 was Jeff Krosnoff's rookie year, or that he finished 2nd at LeMans in 1994 with SARD/Toyota.

      https://www.racing-reference.info/dr...osnje01/1996/R

Guy had a lot of promise. I suppose I like to remember the departed from my favorite sport every now and then. Gone....but not forgotten

He was amazing up until his unfortunate exit (which I was watching live as it happened). I took a picture of the SARD car that was/is @ the Le Mans Museum (in Arnage) last year.

*His crash was disturbingly violent too. It sticks with me because of the track-worker that was killed too. It took the guys head completely off.

      in for 2020.

I'm liking the look of the aeroscreen and looking forward to them at Indy again, especially with Penske's inputs/spending for 2020.

although, he may be threatening the men's bathroom pee troughs.

Yep, was watching live as well. My reaction was the same as Danny Sullivan's on air - who's car that errant gearbox and rear suspension belonged to. Aaargh what a terrible, terrible deal that was.

I knew about the corner worker, but not the details. Holey mackerel.

At a street-course no less. I've watched it a couple times since and I cringe every time.

As of today, Fernando Alonso is no longer linked to McLaren, which clears the way for him to be Honda-powered @ Indy in an Andretti car.

This is good news for the Indy series. Geez the 500 is only a few months away.

What an absolute dick move. Forget about advancing the series, or having such a huge worldwide name in the big American race. These marque specific contracts and not enough cross-platform racing will be the death of it. The biggest all-time names, Chapman, Hill, Clark, Andretti, Foyt, etc., were huge because they raced in all types of cars. People followed the personalities, not the whims of a manufacturer, if circumstances did not allow.

On whose part? You can't talk **** about your engine supplier and not expect it to not have consequences. Fred has other options to get his Triple Crown in order, just not with a Honda powerplant. The Japanese take pride and respect very seriously, regardless of the celebrity attached.

Also, keep in mind that he's never publicly apologized.

Eh, it was something said of complete frustration, during a race, with his engineer on the team radio. And, it was......holy...FIVE YEARS AGO?

It was a lot more than just once, and he did it on an international stage. Honda Japan makes the rules.

This sort of thing used to happen in Indycars all the time, back in the day. And it wasn't just engines - it was tire manufacturers, gasoline vs. fuel, etc.

Ah well, I guess Frednando has to be a Chevy guy now. S**t happens.

Besides, Honda has plenty of drivers in good rides that could win the 500, this isn't a giant loss for them.

I'm more pissed off that Honda booted SeaBass.
