Hey Everyone, bit of a selfish reason for this thread (me keeping my progress up to date in one spot and pictures) but thought maybe everyone would get a kick out of me trying to semi-restore and fix an old Audi that's been sitting for 15 years. Also I figure there's a good collective knowledge here for any issues I may come across.
So here it is, car is a 1990 Audi Coupe Quattro. Completely stock, one owner car. I found it in the back corner of a shops lot and took it for scrap price and dragged it over to friends shop to work on. Well, time came and went and the car got forgotten for a few years. Fast forward to last year got my own little work shop going and got reminded of the car as my friends shop was moving and they were cleaning up, so I drive down with a buddy and see what we can do.
The day we picked it up;
And made it back to the shop (after much struggling with flat tires and siezed rotors)
And it begins, up on jack stands and wheels off (while it got fresh rubber) to inspect everything. Surprisingly great to see the only bad spot underneath is the exhaust. The floors, driveshaft, suspension metals look fantastic and not a single bolt was siezed!
Calipers removed, rebuilt and all 4 were saved, fresh pads and rotors put on and crusty brake lines replaced. master cylinder tested and good to go same with the brake bomb. Put it all together and we have brakes! The car not stopped. But it did not run.
Enter this scene
Get a fresh battery in and start testing fuelling system. Pump is dead. Here we go, time to try and find parts for this
Scouring North America we find a warehouse with a Bosch pump, boom ordered and wallet much lighter now and we wait. Honestly so much time has passsed just waiting for parts! Once we get pump I discover fuel rail is leaky and 2 injectors dead. Ok, tear apart all that, replace some lines while in there and get a fresh rail and injectors on. Wallet even lighter now and break taken because I bought a house at this point and wallet was no longer necessary because there was no cash to carry
Back at it I order all new belts, delete the auxiliary radiatior infront of the timing belt cover, fresh water pump and get it all installed. The car runs like a dream now! But wait, small accident as I dropped a headlight and quickly found out its glass lenses..
So she gets put together and I currently sit having done the fuel filter, oil filter and a few changes since we did some seafoam treatment and now all that's left is really finiding this headlight, suspension and buttoning up little things to get it saftied and on the road!
Thanks for reading if you got this far and always open to suggestions!
