Hey Everyone, bit of a selfish reason for this thread (me keeping my progress up to date in one spot and pictures) but thought maybe everyone would get a kick out of me trying to semi-restore and fix an old Audi that's been sitting for 15 years. Also I figure there's a good collective knowledge here for any issues I may come across.

So here it is, car is a 1990 Audi Coupe Quattro. Completely stock, one owner car. I found it in the back corner of a shops lot and took it for scrap price and dragged it over to friends shop to work on. Well, time came and went and the car got forgotten for a few years. Fast forward to last year got my own little work shop going and got reminded of the car as my friends shop was moving and they were cleaning up, so I drive down with a buddy and see what we can do.

      The day we picked it up;

And made it back to the shop (after much struggling with flat tires and siezed rotors)

And it begins, up on jack stands and wheels off (while it got fresh rubber) to inspect everything. Surprisingly great to see the only bad spot underneath is the exhaust. The floors, driveshaft, suspension metals look fantastic and not a single bolt was siezed!

Calipers removed, rebuilt and all 4 were saved, fresh pads and rotors put on and crusty brake lines replaced. master cylinder tested and good to go same with the brake bomb. Put it all together and we have brakes! The car not stopped. But it did not run.

      Enter this scene

Get a fresh battery in and start testing fuelling system. Pump is dead. Here we go, time to try and find parts for this

Scouring North America we find a warehouse with a Bosch pump, boom ordered and wallet much lighter now and we wait. Honestly so much time has passsed just waiting for parts! Once we get pump I discover fuel rail is leaky and 2 injectors dead. Ok, tear apart all that, replace some lines while in there and get a fresh rail and injectors on. Wallet even lighter now and break taken because I bought a house at this point and wallet was no longer necessary because there was no cash to carry

Back at it I order all new belts, delete the auxiliary radiatior infront of the timing belt cover, fresh water pump and get it all installed. The car runs like a dream now! But wait, small accident as I dropped a headlight and quickly found out its glass lenses..

So she gets put together and I currently sit having done the fuel filter, oil filter and a few changes since we did some seafoam treatment and now all that's left is really finiding this headlight, suspension and buttoning up little things to get it saftied and on the road!

Thanks for reading if you got this far and always open to suggestions!

Not selfish at all, TCL needs more threads like these.

      These are neat cars.

That thing is impossibly clean for sitting for 15 years, and remarkably rust free for an Ontario car. This is cool. What's the plan for it? Just get it to driver status? Also, manual?

Thanks everyone! I have to admit I'm excited seeing the finish line (the first on many I'm sure) to just get it on the road legally.

Right now this is the worst of the rust on it along with some stone chipping on the hood

And yup it is manual, grey cloth interior with the auto climate control.

(Don't worry the dice are going to get removed when its on the road, buddy threw it on as a joke because we were cleaning the shop and found them.)

As for plans, for now it will be get everything buttoned up and running smooth. Its got 253,000 KM on it and all original. So I'd like to get it running in tip top shape and just enjoy it. Initially I'd like to get some suspension work on it, drop it juuuust a touch to stiffen it out and then run it till the motor goes. Exhaust wise I'll put in some fresh tubing and check out the resonator and cat. If they are in good shape they'll stay in with just a muffler delete because I love the sound of the 5 cyl.

Sweet. And that is not at all a bad interior look for the age of the car. Guess I haven't seen the inside of a Coupe Quattro before

Funny enough, minus the Honda Sensing, it has the exact same features as my '19 Accord

Those are great cars! We have a couple of forum members who do nasty things to these (as in 7a/AAN turbo conversions), so there is some CQ expertise if needed. I'm surprised you found injectors for this-it was my understanding that the Hitachi engine management system is nearly impossible to source parts for.

These cars definitely benefit from a suspension upgrade, starting with bushings and moving onto H&R/Bilstein or Koni suspension. They also sound phenomenal with an aftermarket exhaust.

The interiors are made from pretty decent quality materials and tend to wear well if they don't have galactic mileage on them.

Is it my imagination or are there no picts? I'm not seeing them.

Please include, if not, and GL with the restore!

Yea I got really lucky and a friend of a friend happen to have a spare fuel rail he never used after swapping motors so it was pure luck. I went to the dealer for S&G's to ask about a part and Audi has officially designed this car as obsolete

I will have to pick anyone's brain on suspension setups they've done so anyone feel free to chime in here. I honestly haven't looked too closely yet into it but its becoming a priority as it gets close to being road ready.

Handsome cars when new and the design has aged gracefully. Glad to see it finally getting rescued.

Also, the quattroworld forums may be a good place to source parts for this thing.
