Every time I see one of the OG make a thread like this, I realize I really have not kept up the pace on my car acquisitions. PJA and I are the same age and he has had 55 cars while I just acquired my 17th car a few months ago. My car OCD turns out not as bad as I thought.

If its of any consolation, in my case quantity does not reflect overall quality.

One of my 17 cars was also a Suzuki... but sadly not a Cappuccino. So don't discount the quality rating of your collection.

I like these threads because it reminds me of the fact that I joined when I was 14, too young to even get a learner's permit, and then spent my high school years arguing on the internet with legitimate adults who were paying for the cars they owned. How times have changed.

      Hey I remember that! Haha...

I just realized I am at or past 20 years myself. I first registered on Vortex in '99 before picking up a '00 GTI 1.8T.

Pretty crazy when I think about all of the things in my life that have changed. Probably at least 50 cars, a few girlfriends, moved to Montana for a number of years and on and on.

Amazing that there are still guys on here from back then. (KC Jazz being one of them).

Sadly other than TCL this place is pretty quiet these days. The NE Regional forum alone used to turn a few pages a day.

I had a 86 Suzuki Samurai with leaky head gasket and exhaust leak. To mask the funky noises, I installed some bad ass speakers on the floor. Driving topless with exhaust leak was an interesting experience youthful ignorance

It also had a bad rust spot at the base of the windshield which I covered up with a sticker from the local alternative rock radio station. If I can't see it, it doesn't exist

You know, this place is a lot less restrictive than it used to be. I once got censored for using the term "Jap car". Conversations are a lot more freewheeling than they used to be. To be fair, there's a lot fewer of us. And we're a bit older now.

I probably first joined in 2001/02 which would make it half my life.

Got maturer but not many changes in cars.

EDIT: had to be 01 as I now remember getting Sept 11 updates from this forum (or maybe I was a lurker but I know I had a different username before).

      Happy anniversary.

I'm almost at 21 years on the Vortex. I joined shortly after I bought my first VW. Lots of life changes but not much car change, drove the same VW for the past 21 years.

The best part of this forum is that it's a bunch of car nerds who exist to bicker over car nerdery.

For the most part, we don't have idiots coming on here bragging about their "[email protected] new LAMBO!"

There's something about this place that manages to toe the line between being low-key, but also filled with a good bit of automotive knowledge, but also filled with enough humor and cool user cars that it sort of becames a "home base" for online car discussions.

I love it here. I hope it never dies.

The biggest issue will be that if TCL one day goes away, most of us will not know how to contact each other. That would be sad
