      2013 Infiniti G37x Coupe
      11-04-2019 01:56 PM #1
Decided to ditch the Hyundai. Good car for the time I had it but in a little under two years it was already starting to develop mechanical annoyances (weird squealing when turning the wheel at low speed in cold and/or wet weather, transmission shifts were gradually getting jerkier and more erratic) and show wear in ways inside and out that irked me. So, I wanted out and into something I've always adored.

Specifically, it's a 2013 Infiniti G37x Coupe in Vibrant Red -- Journey trim with the Premium package. It's glorious. The absolute perfect spec for me would have been the G37xS but they're hard to come by and I didn't like the condition of any of the ones I came across before this. Agreeable price, low-ish miles (44k) -- couldn't say no.

I had it shipped over from a Carmax in Ohio and took delivery on Halloween. The most wear it has is with the driver's seat (nothing cracked or torn but some wear and sagging on the outer bolsters). Paint is in good shape and none of the peeling/damaged interior trim these cars often get.

Very happy to have a VQ engine back in my possession and with a sound that puts a grin on my face with every acceleration opportunity.

No specific mods planned for now outside of some Blizzak WS90s maybe within a month.

      Nirvana.

Solid pick up. These cars were a good evolution from the initial G35. Unfortunately Infiniti lost the plot after that, seemingly making decisions only based upon how it effects a bottom line and not how consumers may react.

Nice score! Should treat you well.

Not a whole lot of added value in the S model anyway. You can add the paddle shifters separately just buy the parts. I did it on my X sedan.

I do however also suggest intakes, HFCs and a mild more audible muffler for proper VQ enjoyment.

Nice choice on the Infiniti...now the Elantra Sport you had, was it the DCT? The local Hyundai dealer has a 2018 CPO for sale, but honestly, I would rather the manual if buying.

Absolutely love this car. Just traded in a 2013 G37x sedan for a 2015 Q50 3.7 with only 5,000 miles on it. Say what you want about these cars feeling more dull and less luxurious than their German counterparts, but DAMN that is one fine engine.

Hmm, the paddle shifters are inexpensive and the install looks quite simple...

Honestly, strange 19-year-old me just liked that word when signing up for whatever reason. I guess it works with the "VQ" part for alliteration's sake.

Yep, the DCT. Another issue with it I had mentioned in other threads is that there were rare but irritating occasions where if you are cruising at sub-10MPH and decide to give it a moderate amount of more throttle, it will bog down badly and fail to accelerate for a few seconds. Hyundai really needs to work on the calibration or tuning on this one. It's fine 90% of the time but the other 10% does grate. If you're already inclined towards a manual, I would go that route.

That is one thing I'll kind of miss about the Hyundai -- I won't be seeing anything close to 35-40MPG again for a long time. But the trade-off is well worth it.

Yes, I really would like Nissan to not abandon the NA V6 game in their cars. I like the idea of the VR engines and they look impressive on paper but I understand they're having their share of teething issues. I really would like to be able to consider a modern Q60 down the line.

      congrats on the purchase man,
i'd seriously reconsider a Q60 unless its been dealer maintained and NOT beat on.

I was an advisor for Infiniti for a bit, the 2.0 and even the 3.0t had major issues with engine sludging. Infiniti updated there service intervals mid cycle, also changed the weight of the oil.

      still didn't help,

ENGINE SLUDGE DESTROYS THE ENGINE!! they can NOT be cleaned. buying a used Q60/50 or even CPO, infiniti USA will DENY the claim even if they have receipts proving oil changes.
if sludge is found within the engine game over.

there is a dealership buying these used Q's up at auction, 17k-40k miles on the cars. reselling them to special credit customers and then shrugging their shoulders when the cars limp into their dealership. 100% of them have engine sludge when they come visit us. these are cars that will probably go about 20k then start to develop issues and unfortunately the consumer is left footing the bill or an expensive paperweight.

And contrary to what you may read, you do NOT have to remove the steering wheel. You can turn it 90 deg in either direction to access the fasteners you need.

The paddles work well and seem to shift quicker than the stupid bump stick factory feature.

If you need any help with anything on the car ever don't hesitate to ask.

      Congrats, great car.
My retired neighbor has a silver G37S, that is a total cream puff. Always garaged, driven by his wife. Dealer serviced.
He’s talking about upgrading to a SUV, as the G is getting harder for her to drive.
I have asked many times to let me buy it, we’ll see!
