I'm interested in this too. Will need to ship my son's GTI across the country soon.

The following shippers were recommended on other forums where I posted by folks who had a positive experience:
      Reliable - multiple recommendations
      BJ Interstate
Ready Logistics - used by car dealerships
Select 1 group - multiple recs
      Angels Transportation

This independent site seems to have the most believable reviews on shipping consolidators. https://www.transportreviews.com/ Most car shipping companies are consolidators. That is, they don't have their own trucks but subcontract the job to independent truckers. Reliable has their own trucks. Not sure yet about the others as I have not yet made my shipping arrangements.

The most common complaint is the trucker on delivery holds your car hostage for an extra couple of hundred $ for various lame excuses and wants the $ in cash before he takes your car off the truck.

Select 1 Group is the best deal by far if you are not in a hurry. They have a "space available" rate that takes 2-4 weeks for transport coast to coast and is about $800 less than the nearest recommended competitor for enclosed truck shipping. They have their own truck fleet and do not subcontract any moves, a big plus because there is only one phone number you need to know to get status of your move and you don't have to worry about the quality of a subcontractor. Coast to coast is around $1600. Their price for open and closed trucks are the same, a surprise.
