The CEO said that the agreement was made official and Amazon is committed to buying 100,000 electric delivery vans from Rivian to be deployed between 2021 and 2024.

To date, Rivian has only announced plans to build an electric pickup truck, the Rivian R1T, and an electric SUV, the Rivian R1S.

EDIT Bodged the thread title up real good there

He probably did his Musk time/Rivian time conversion wrong.

I work occasionally at a sports arena in my area that rents parking spaces to an Amazon delivery vendor. They park about 150 vans in the parking lot at night. Some are blue and marked with the Amazon logo but many are plain white. No way these guys are going to switch to EV vans. Wiring up the lot with chargers would be a huge expense. I assume these would probably be mainly used in CA by Amazon themselves.

Judging by the wheels, it's the delivery van version of the Tata Nano.

Wait... what? Rolling down a window? Isn't that considered a minor human comfort? This is Amazon we're talking about here.

With the quality of drivers they attract (very little pay, no benefits) how long until we start seeing those by the dozens on Copart?

Some of the Prime vans that deliver to my locale are already pretty banged up for being a year or two old.

I believe it's somewhere on the same eyesore level as UPS and Sprinter vans.

      This is huge news.

The sprinter only sold 27.608 in 2017, so this is automatically coming into the market as a leader

Rivian is really going to pull this off aren't they

I would love one of their SUVs, or tou buy one of these for a RV conversion down the road.

The ones I see around here seem to be driven by 16 year olds. Typically blasting music.
