Only in the sense of shape, like every other CUV, constrained by aerodynamics and pedestrian impact laws.

It's a crossover with 4 wheels and 4 doors, so, kinda?

They have the same basic shape but are executed differently. The VW is maximizing interior space and thus has the cabin further forward. Ford on the other hand wanted more of Mustang look in their design ans so the Mach-E has a longer hood and coupe-like rear.

That's a bit weird. The large panel section on the lower end of the doors to cover up for the battery pack.

Okay, I just watched a Top Gear video where they do a walkaround, and I hate it less than I did before. But I still think they could have done much better.

No, they are not the same basic shape.
Good Lorde, the Mach-e looks more like a more muscular original FX45 than anything VW ever built or concepted.
That "I.D." looks like a 2007 Mazda CX-7 with a VW front end.

Normally I just ignore the "how everything relates to VW" aspect of this forum since there are so many VW fans here, and that's just part of it.
But the only way your I.D. and Mach-e is the same basic shape "with changes" works is if every single four door crossover ever made is also included.
There is literally no reason to choose the I.D. over others that are actually more similar, other than just wanting to inject a VW in this thread.
      Yes, it's a face-palm worthy comment.
But that's ok.. if we all agreed on everything these threads would be way more boring.

      EDIT.

Ok, I missed the part about VW and Ford partnering in the future.
So.. yeah. I can see why the I.D. was brought up.. sort of.

Also Ford's partnership with VW was just announced a few months ago. There's no way they were able to wrap a whole vehicle around MEB that quickly. The announcement was that the MEB partnerhsip would begin to bear fruit in 2023. Read more: https://www.motor1.com/news/359495/f...iance-expands/

I wonder if the slightly larger EV to be built at Ohio Assembly in 2023 will also be MEB.

That's not uncommon. Audi does it too, although the Mach-E's door panel looks even longer.

I didn't bring up VW in this thread. Someone else asked about the similarities with the ID4. You are clearly sensitive to this I see.

Your FX45/CX7 analogy doesn't quite work either. The only thing the Ford has in common with the FX45 is the long hood - which I already mentioned about the Ford. The FX45 is far from muscular too and the rear half looks more like the ID4 then the Crosstour-like Mach-E.

I don't think the door treatment, inside or out, is that different from other Fords like the Edge,

      http://images.gtcarlot.com/pictures/103322841.jpg

The doors go all the way down where a "rocker" would be, and the lower metal on the door provides the outer part of that coverage.

What appears to be the most important point in the extended agreement, however, is that Ford will use Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Toolkit, also known as the MEB architecture, to design and build its own fully-electric vehicles starting in 2023. The German manufacturer will supply the Blue Oval with MEB parts and components for up to 600,000 vehicles for Europe over the course of six years. Additionally, the two automakers are already discussing a second all-new EV for the Old continent.
What the article in the link says, and what I recall reading about the VW/Ford deal, is Ford will only be using MEB in Europe.
This makes sense, because I assume this newly introduced Mach E platform will see use in a variety of domestic Fords and Lincolns.
Also, the Ford/VW deal also seems to be a lot about VW supplying parts to Ford, for the MEB cars. That wouldn't make a lot of sense in North America, where Ford has the larger
      manufacturing footprint.
