Even 2020 4Runners will be single stage Super White IIRC.

I know Tacomas / Tundras are. My truck is single stage Super White

No, that was a pretreatment fail. Actually, it was a paint technology got ahead of pretreatment technology and the two did not play well together.

      Same here.

Every time there is a change up in paintshop technology, some poor OEM takes the hit for being first to market.

I am not sure what is the same here aside from the paint. The word here is that the limitation to specific paint colors mean that the pretreatment is probably ok, but there is a mismatch between the color coat and the ecoat/primer. This could be as simple as a bad CTE mismatch or as crazy as a resin compounding mismatch leading to failed co-bonding.

I need to see a car up close to actually conclude anything.

It won't. Owners won't report it as a problem.
