Not her actual car, but the car she drove when I was a kid, the 1985 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser station wagon. He keeps saying ďpeople actually had these as family cars!Ē As if that was some surprising thing. Yes, yes we did. It was a thing.

Ours was blue with the same wood paneling, and IIRC, blue cloth interior. So choice.

I was pretty excited to watch this one when I saw it. These things are hilarious.

We had family friends growing up with some dark blue version. I remember the rear facing 3-row bench being among the coolest things I'd seen at the time.

My grandmother had an '85 Crown Vic Country Squire with a throttle-body injected 302 (140 hp IIRC) and the face-to-face 3rd row. You could fit four kids back there, questionably belted in, so 10 people total with the front bench.

I drove it some when I was in high school and don't remember it feeling too archaic, with adequate power (it was decently torquey so moved out okay). But after only driving small Japanese cars the hood looked like it went out forever.

Exactly like this with the turbine wheels but with a tan base instead of maroon

The 1986+ ones got the port-injected 302 so they had a whole 150 horsepower (or 160 with dual exhaust) -- but 270/280 lb-ft

Doug D is so magoo that it hurts.

Could these family wagons be considered land yachts or do they not fit the requirements. Theyíre big, boaty and so damn cool. We might require a more formal classing system to these vehicles that could fit into several classes
Your favorite Ziemniak, hold the gravy.

I had a 1985 Custom Cruiser Blue on Blue with wood paneling as my first car.

Worst moment: Stopped at a traffic light, look over and see a really cute girl looking at me. I roll down my window. She smiles. I say "How are you today?" She says: "Is that a kitchen cabinet on wheels?"

Best moment: Sawzalled the top right off and made a 9 passenger convertible. Cruised around for a few weeks. Added a massive system. Potted plants in the B and C pillar openings. Drilled holes in the floor so that the rain would just drain out. Rolled around 9 deep with my friends bumping music and hitting on chicks. Will dig up a pic and post shortly.

My soccer coach had a first generation model. It was blue with the 455 cu.in. V8. It had glass sectiosns in the raised part of the roof that would let in lite The rear glass would power into the roof and the tailgate would power into the floor. We used to sit in the cargo area with the glass closed and tailgate open as he floored it down the street.

      Ah, the 70s.

That is why he is so popular. Doug has as much quirks and features as the cars he reviews.

It's true. Doug Demuro is the only guy I know who can own both a Ford GT and a Land Rover Defender, and still be the lamest guy in whatever room he happens to be in.
