The clutch in modern VWs frankly seem to suck. Why is this?
Probably a hydraulic clutch, they should go back to the good old non assisted clutch, they always worked beautifully.
I mean honestly that vague clutch uptake is inexcusable for the car that does everything else so well.
Come on VW you can't tell me that you've forgotten how to make a good positive feeling clutch. I know because I own cars of yours that do that perfectly too. Geeze!

I do not think that means what you think that means.
      The styling is...polarizing.
      The interior feels cheap.
You have to get the top of the range in order to get the good head unit, and the lower end unit looks cheap and out of place.
The seats, while not terrible, are massively disappointing compared to the GTI.
      Beats Audio is garbage.
According to VWs own web site they come standard with H-rated touring tires. The three I have seen in my local dealer all have H-Rated Hankook A/S Touring garbage.

Too bad about the styling. Makes the MK6 Jetta look like Brad Pitt

There’s no adaptive cruise or lane keep either, right?

But it is cheap cheap cheap. Elantra GT May be a better overall value though.

I think you can get ACC on the Autobahn trim, which is actually a pretty good value. It's cavernous inside as well. But the looks... yeech. Ugly in and out. Amazing how small tweaks between it and the GTI make such a huge aesthetic difference.

I think it is a great deal. Great performance and price.

I'm a big fan of the GLI after owning a MK5 and MK6. It is a little more jelly bean than I'd like but glad to see VW treating it more like the GTI

Agreed, I saw the new Jetta GLi on the road, it looks like a tarted up Corolla or something from the front. Just looks too generic and not very 'german'. The older Jetta looked better to me. The rear end on the new Jetta looks good.

MotorWeek has very low standards if that’s what they call perfection.

Get rid of the clutch delay valve (remove the restrictor inside, no need to buy the expensive bleeder block) and there is a spring you can remove under the dash that is supposed to help too (I have not done that mod before, but did the restrictor delete on my mk7 GTI and made a hell of a difference).

GLI Perfect? No, but compared to most things out there in its price range its actually pretty good. I spent several months looking for a fun DD, new that gets decent MPGs, was a sedan and manual transmission (or at the very least, not a junk CVT trans) and there isn't much out there, the car market isn't what it was 5 years ago. If you want a fun DD for less than 30k (again, New) that is a sedan and has a decent transmission...there isn't much out there.

The MK6 Jetta was the blandest looking car being sold in the American market during its lifecycle.

The Autobahn trim does not come with ACC. I don't believe the Autobahn trim gets DCC either. That's currently only on the 35th AE. It's like VW packaged the car to fail from the get-go.

Gimme a boring yet taut design over a less bland but blob-ish look any day of the week.

I saw a new GLI on the road the other day, it did NOT look good.

I think it's the clutch's pressure plate, with weak springs. AFAIK there's no power assist or anything like that. In some sense, it's double-unfortunate, because I think it's the same weak springs that can cause slippage on chipped cars.

My unpopular opinion: light clutches are actually kind of nice at times, e.g., traffic. In my Mk7 my leg never got tired, but I can't say that about my Mk5.

But I think GLI looks terrible in red. In this color, I really think it looks stunning.

It would be my top pick (granted, without driving it) if I was in the market for a $30k 4dr.

I crossed shopped it vs a 2.0T Accord Sport and while I agree with the GLI value based performance and price, I just couldn't get past the polarizing front end and cheap interior compared to other VWs, even the GTI.
The dealer (where I bought 2 GTIs and a R32) tried hard to sell me, esp on the warranty and discounts...but I just couldn't do it.

IMO, the front end of the Accord is WAAAAY worse than the GLI..

2.0T Accord sport almost got my money...it came VERY close.

Former MK6 owner chiming in -

New Jetta design is a step forward, with the MQB platform and all, so that's good. Some interior materials may be cheap, but there was some of that in the MK6 too.

Not digging the styling though, and they fundamentally reworked the ergonomics so as to eliminate me from the potential buyer pool. No more slidey armrest, fale.

Not a fan of this Primer Grey everyone loves. It looks like a plastic toy car with no color depth. I also wish they didn’t redesign the hood....not liking those hood lines at all. The front grill design is better looking but way too big imo. And no fogs....no freakin fog lights!
