Metal Shavings In Oil Filter? - Supercharged VR6

Car is a 85 Golf with 97 VR6 with VF Engineering Super Charger. (SC does not use engine oil)
105k miles, no internal work done.
Replaced timing chains 3000 miles ago.
Changed oil/filter today and saw this is the filter.

Savings are super fine, looks like glitter.
I can't pull them out with a magnet... not sure if they are not magnetic, or if they are just stuck in the filter.

Any ideas on the cause?

With every oil change i have ever done on any car I've always seen tiny specs of metal particles like what you've got on your filter. It's inevitable that there is going to be some friction on a cold start that will cause this. The filter did its job and caught the particles. As long as you're not having oil pressure problems i wouldn't be worried about it. I use a magnetic drain plug in both of my VR's. One of them is supercharged, one is not. On both of them when i change the oil there is always a small amount of very fine shavings stuck to the magnet and they both run great.
