Most of you remember this thread when I totaled my S8 and the buying experience buying my S6 here
      https://forums.vwvortex.com/showthre...e-*S8-edition*

Then while work was getting done on my S6 under warranty this happened
      https://forums.vwvortex.com/showthre...months-of-cars

Thennnnnn, I had a nice fender bender with the car.. $13k fender bender
      https://forums.vwvortex.com/showthre...bender-edition

S, its been a couple years since. Bought the car at 55k km, and for the most part it has been good. Regularly killing the epa numbers of 27us mpg getting over 30. Well I am now at 147k km and it had started idling like a muscle car, stalling and losing power. All of my driving was 95% highway with cruise, 94oc fuel only, and all service by dealer on time. Here is my latest reports after being without my car for 3 weeks

After the work was done, I was notified that out of pocket would have been nearly $20k CAD. Thank goodness I had bough the Audi Aftercare warranty that takes over after the cpo of 120k to 180k km

Sorry, I didn't crop the images

I got the car back and after driving for an hour or so and parking it for an hour, it won't start. Just rolls until I press the gas when I hit the starter button and brake.

      Anyone want a used S6?

I tried and I can't read that garbage.

What was wrong with it? Besides being an Audi.

      Damn, here’s the cliff notes-

S6 taken in for no power; DTCs for running rich and misfires on 6 different cylinders. Tech tears into S6 and sees no visible turbo damage or fuel delivery problems. Leakdown and comp reveal internal problems, tech does an engine-out removal and complete tear down for replacement of rings on all 8 cylinders. Gerbil gets a new rebuilt 4.0T at 147K for $free.99 via Audicare’s extended warranty.

I’m surprised that Audi does not keep rebuilt 4.0T’s for these situations to keep labor down, but also to find the root cause of why these are having problems.

The saying about Euro cars was "pay to play", this seems more like take it in the shorts to play . Cool deal on the warranty

There was a time when common products just broke down like TVs and VCRs. As a child I remember seeing TV/VCR repair shops. And with time those items became more efficient, cheaper, and just plain better. I truly think we'll look back to stories like this, pictures, and old repair shops and think "How the f*CK did we put up with such engineering??".

I think it goes without saying that you need to stay away from Audi's going forward.

After the experiences I had with my 2006 A6 4.2, I'll never own another Audi.

Haha! That particular model must have cost Audi a lot of sales. I also have some kind of PTSD about Audis after owning a 2006 A6 4.2. It had a beautiful interior to sit in while waiting for a tow truck.

I even tried sitting in a 2014ish S4, the interior looked very similar and I just noped right out of the dealership.

It was such a great car until it wasn't.

The crazy thing is I NEVER see C6s on the road anymore. Saw one in Pasadena the other day, and just about did a double take.

Friend of mine had a similar experience with an S6 just like yours. If he hadn't had the extended warranty he would have been out around $15k out of pocket. Sold the car and the new owner has racked up another $10k in service.

I would personally never own an Audi out of warranty. Ever.

How old was it when you got it?

I bought a very old Audi at $4500 that I resold $4300 three years later - but I spent $11000 in between. So I probably made the same statement as yours.

Now see my avatar how I broke that vow. On a lease, though.

Admittedly my experience with a long term BMW was as much worse. I was never lucky with my old German cars (I had a few ones).

It's a shame Audi is for crap reliability wise cause I really like them. And the S5 is da bomb, I love they way they sound, congrats!

I'll preface that I don't know much about these particular motors, but in general while the leakdown isn't great, compression doesn't seem totally off base; I'm a little surprised that they got the recommendation from corporate to replace the pistons and rings right away, I wonder if they've seen this before.

Did everything run OK during the hour drive? With a full engine R&R there's a a lot of sensors and whatnot to re-connect, I wouldn't be surprised if one didn't get connected or seated properly and worked loose.

Been shopping S6 and S8 although 2016 and up...

So what exactly was the root cause here? The piston rings just defective or was there some kind of oiling problem? Cylinder wall lining issue?
