I'm not a fan. It looks Buicky and cheaply made on the interior.

Not the first time VW and Hyundai collaborated. Saw this test mule outside my work

      There's a reason for that.

There are only so many ways you can design a mainstream vehicle.

      Without copying.

I can't believe how much more upscale it is than the car its replacing.

Now that the Azera is history, it seems like maybe they've designed this Sonata to maybe cover both slots. I could be wrong, but I get the feeling they're maybe also beckoning some of the Avalon/ES350 customer base with this.

4 pages in and TCL is TCL'ing it to death but I agree with Cabin Pics's comment on page 1, it is a handsome automobile.

      https://www.carscoops.com/2019/03/20...tion-platform/

Shortly after the 2020 Hyundai Sonata was revealed ahead of its world premiere at the 2019 New York Auto Show on April 19, the South Korean automaker has confirmed that the new four-door coupe is underpinned by its third-generation vehicle platform.

This new platform debuts beneath the bodywork of the Sonata and will be used by future models in the Hyundai range. Hyundai says that its third-generation vehicle platform incorporates a multi-load path structure, ‘Hot Stamping’ and super-high tensile steel plate to ensure it is far superior than the outgoing platform.

      Safety first

In terms of safety, the new architecture has improved energy absorption and helps to minimize collision impact into the passenger cabin. In addition, the platform is designed in such a way that the wheels move outward during a small overlap collision to improve passenger safety. This technology also helps to prevent the vehicle from spinning and being involved in potential secondary collisions.

Hyundai’s use of Hot Stamping also prevents deformation of the passenger cell.

Alongside the improvements in safety provided by the new platform, the underpinnings of the 2020 Hyundai Sonata improve performance.

Looks like an Audi A5 backed into and melted with a Civic.

Not a bad looking car outside.

Definitely a quantum leap forward compared to the previous generation Sonata.

Why you wouldn’t (buy an Optima SX):

Because you have your eyes on the Frigidaire Limited Edition Camry that you saw last weekend at the neighborhood Autoplex

I missed that detail in the initial press shots. This lighting-to-brightwork detail is interesting and pretty unique. I thought it was just brightwork, not DRL-LED "blending" to no-lit as it runs up the hood.

That is slick and is enough to make me not hate that otherwise add-on piece of chrome. A hard line would've ruined it, but that works pretty well.

Yes Cabin Pics, it's a handsome car.

New Sonata is packed with tech, including a built in dash cam and air purifier.

From the front it looks like a smaller Hyundai sitting inside the bottom portion of a bigger one. Like maybe the bottom half of the car is a drip tray for when the engine leaks oil:

Turbo version is coming. Hopefully it'll be unveiled next month at NYIAS.

H/K corporate 1.6T is 201 HP in the smaller GT models. That doesn't seem enough for an engine upgrade above the base 2.0L... unless the 1.6T a side grade aimed at fuel economy. Boosting the turbo engine to 250-ish HP or higher would be an interesting move for a family sedan.

That's been a rumor for a while, but nothing has been confirmed. I'm just hoping for the possibility that they pair up the turbo with all-wheel drive. That Hyundai video that showcases the new Sonata platform has a few glimpses of a chassis with a drive shaft going to the rear axle.

The graphics are really fussy especially the rear end, and the surfacing is amateur hour. But the proportions are spot on.

That's the KDM engine lineup; NA will likely get some changes.

The NA engine lineup could end up being the 2.5L (likely w/ some sort of hybridization, even if just a 48V system), the 1.6T and the 2.5T (for the Sonata-N).

The rumor is that the next Optima GT will get the 2.5T w/ around 286 HP and possibly AWD.

Probably will see something close to 300 HP for the Sonata-N.
