Porsche tax. The struggle is real!

The previous owner of my car paid the Porsche tax for NEW WINDSHIELD WIPERS. Cost him like $200! But was too cheap to replace the spark plugs on time.

Even if you DIY, they're still expensive. I got wipers for my Cayenne on Suncoast and it was like $100 after shipping.

$500 for a battery is obscene. The only thing I would double check for is that it's not like BMW where you can't just swap it out because the alternator will overcharge it without being reprogrammed.

There is nothing like that for these cars. I just had to replace the battery in my 997 two weeks ago. Mine was completely dead so I had to use battery cables with my Benz for the fuse box under the dash to open the frunk.

OP- you can buy the equivalent battery from Audi (IIRC it's the same group number/cca for a b7 a4) for cheaper if you really want, but I think it is still roughly $300+.

Yeah Porsche uses completely sealed AGM batteries so they're not going to be cheap even without the dealer tax.

I replaced my battery for $154 USD (after core discount). H7 AGM. Just replace with the same size code and at least same CCA... no mystery to it. I just pulled out the old battery and put the new one in.

All done. Went with the Audi battery. $199 with tax.

Did you buy it from Audi or just use the Audi as a reference? Because that is really cheap for a sealed AGM from a dealer.

And Li-ions on some of the more extreme and or newer ones. GL;HF with replacing one of those!

      ...but I'd still want one.

There aren't many cars that do silver well. The lines have to be just right.

911's and E46 M3's do a great job pulling it off.

MB does silver well too, specifically the older cars.

Have to agree. My garage has 4 walls, a roof and the door. I actually think I have seen his garage/port thing. There is one like his that I have seen down an alley way, on my commute home. After seeing some of his posts, I won't be surprised if he lived in the area. If your familiar with Toronto its near the film studio district in the east end of the city, about 10 minutes from the downtown core.

OP - Nice car, those wheels are one of the best I have seen on a Porsche. The GTi is sweet as well, I had a Silver 83.

Thank you for the comment. Wheels are one of those things.... I really like gold BBS with polished lips, like the RS’s I have for my gti. But these will do fine for now!

So with the door on the floor is it like a submarine lair?

Yeah, Hawc is definitely Cabbagetown. He posted a map when he used to cycle to work years ago.

Congrats! I miss my old 997.2 C2S a heck of a lot more than my 997.2 GT3. They are amazing cars.

Mods which I would consider to be somewhat essential:

      1) Sharkwerks bypass
      2) Gundo hack (if you don't have PSE)
      3) H&R lowering springs
      4) 991 sport lip

      Past: 997.2 C2S, 997.2 GT3
      Present: 991.1 GT3RS (PTS)
      Future: Carrera GT

Late to this party, but wanted to offer my congrats! Beautiful car and color, but I may be biased.

      My mod recommendations would include:
      - Exhaust
      - DSC Sport controller for PASM

Enjoy the heck out of it and welcome to the club!

Congratulations to you! This is a great purchase, especially if you've been dreaming about it. The colour is gorgeous! At the expense of the inspection, you really changed only the wheels? Was the car all right? For me, this is quite a rare phenomenon, usually when I buy a used car, I do digital vehicle inspection and find a number of problems that have to be eliminated before passing the inspection.

those are some great looking cars!

i went to the local cars and coffee, in oak bay. it was very cold and windy. i met a few people i knew, met some new ones and saw some cool cars. only got the one pic, i was freezing!

also met up with the previous owner. part of the deal was an oil change, so we did that, very easy.

went for a little drive after that, finally gave it some beans while entering the highway. yup, i made the right choice! as i was pulling in, it rolled 40k km. pretty happy about that too.
