Damn that rag (or chunk of TP) looks so 3D realistic I almost reached for my screen to flick it off

My timeline still stands based off of this.
      Release

According to Autocar, the GTI will be unveiled “in the middle of 2020.” Fans will, however, get their first look at the new Golf shape when the covers come off the regular model on 24 October.
So if the ROW won't even see the GTI until middle to late summer it's going to be delayed until 2022-2023 model years for the US.

Hey mods can we just combine these two threads already, they are pretty much the same thing at this point.

VW said that the GTI and R will be released next year. So I still think there is a good chance North America will see them sometime in 2021.

The MK8 GTI won't be even shown till mid to late summer. So based on that we won't see it here until 2022.

The MK7 GTI took one year to get over to North America. The MK6 was released the same year.

Right. The Mk VII delay was primarily getting Puebla setup for MQB-based assembly. If they are shipping the GTI from Europe and producing alongside of the EDM cars, there's no reason for a year-long delay.

They charge a lot more for GTi in Europe. That's reason alone to delay USA deliveries..

So how is this fact then?
Volkswagen released pictures and information on August 6, 2008, prior to the official unveiling. The vehicle was released to the European market in the winter of 2008.

It's been delayed already. It was supposed to be released last September due to software issues and it hasn't been released yet so not sure where you are getting that from.

The standard Golf has been delayed by a couple of months at the most. It is scheduled to go on sale at the end of this year in Germany. So I don't know how can you say the GTI has been delayed by a year. The GTI typically goes on sale 6 months after the standard Golf.

      Why would that be

They charge more for a lot of cars in Europe that are released at the same time in the U.S.

This. I don't like it, and I don't dislike it. As usual, the GTI and/or R will be the interesting reveals.

I dislike it, but I also don't care much. I drove one of the hideous new Jettas for a couple of weeks, and the ugly front end never bugged me.

I will mind if the Golf's new dashboard isn't intuitive and easy to master.
