Its a neat car either way. I'll be satisfied to get the B58 with a manual in RWD format by way of M140i. The Supra gearbox would be a non-starter for me.

A lot of working, middle-class millennials who grew up watching Fast and Furious and played Gran Turismo and Need for Speed are drooling over the Supra... myself included. Plus I do like the B58 and N55 BMW engines.

So yes, BMW partnering with Toyota was a really good move.

Idk, I don't believe any Toyota official has gone on record stating any targeted sales figures.

      Right..

Just dropping in to share my hatred.

Sure it's cool if Toyota partnered with BMW for this concept, but I will forever be unreasonably salty that they slapped the Supra name on it. Utterly disappointing. Just call it something different FFS.

Did they get more attention and more sales by calling it a Supra? DEFINITELY. Would I have fun driving it? DEFINITELY. Will I ever get over the fact that Toyota out-sourced/co-oped the remake an absolutely legendary model, and couldn't even put their own powerplant in it? Not a friggin chance.

      Burn them all with fire.

That goofy spring compressor around the 9:45 mark - just wow. I mean even he said that he thought this was just going to suck, but that with the right tools it's totally fine. It drove home how hard designing an engine must be, since you not only have to design the engine, you have to figure out how it gets assembled not only at the factory but by a field mechanic post-sale. Somebody not only had to design the engine, but each of the specialized tools used to field assemble an engine for those rare times when somebody rebuilds one post-sale.

I'm not sure which is most impressive:

      The B58 motor
Stephan Papadakis ability to be both a master mechanic and great video presenter
The engineers that come up with the many tools seen in the assembly video that I didn't even know existed

Here's a baseline comparison of the new G29 Z4 vs A90 Toyota Supra. All runs are on CA 91 octane, measured at the wheels on our dynojet.

While both are B58 based, the Z4 sees a 48whp gain up top compared to the Supra.

I knew the Z4 had more power than the Supra, but why would Toyota and BMW decide to do this? Wouldn't it have been better for those numbers to go the other way? Most people who buy Z4s are boomers...
