It was a long tiring day today. About 5 oclock I realized I needed to go to Costco for some white people stuff. So I got in the truck to go, got on I-90, relaxing music, traffic was moving smoothly, heat turned up and I'm in my comfy coat and slippers. Bad combination. All of a sudden I realized I had overshot my destination by almost 20 minutes. Whoops. Highway Hypnosis is a real thing and it got me. Whack.

      That's nothing.

I was almost to the Flying J on the east end of Nebraska something like exit 431. I came too just outside of Cheyenne. Listening to my radio make beep sounds, and tapping my foot to it.
Wearing a disguise, and pretending to be someone else?

That goes against all my instincts as a actor...

      Better than getting Cosby'd.

Unless you're into that sort of thing.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I've missed one exit before because of that..that's really it.
Though some places just missing one exit can make for a long turnaround.

The best highway hypnosis type story I've heard of was...

My brother was a graphic design manager for a design firm in Atlanta.
      This was circa 2000 iirc.
He had one young female employee that always seemed to have "bad luck".
There was a holiday extended weekend coming up, and she had planned to go visit her mother in Alabama.
      Long weekend comes and goes.
The next day at work my brother asked her if she had a good visit with her mother in Alabama.
She gasps and said she didn't go.
      Brother obviously asked why.
      Well...
It turns out that she drove for 3 hours to go to Alabama and then realized she was just circling the perimeter of Atlanta.
At that point she gave up and just went home.

      Totally true story.
Doesn't it make you feel comfortable that this person can legally drive and vote?

      60 mile mistake.

It was 1990. I was driving my friend's CRX HF. We left at 8-9:00PM. I was the lead car. my passenger was sleeping, and we were being followed by two high school girls in a Mitsubishi Mirage for a weekend at the beach.

I started at the circle and headed counter-clockwise. I missed the east exit to Rt 50, and went all. The. Way. Around. My passenger woke up and saw that we were about three exits away from where we started. I realized about 15 minutes earlier, but by the time I figured it out, it was quicker just to keep going.

The girls just kept following. We never told them.

This is part of why I almost always use nav even when I know where I'm going. Google/waze traffic data is the other reason.

I got on the wrong bus yesterday, and ended up in the wrong city. The struggle is real.

I've got a better one. Last summer I left the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart around the time everyone leaves from work and was crawling in the rush hour traffic with all of them. I decided to try an alternate route and reconfigured the navigator. An hour and 20km later I found myself arriving at the museum again.

You wanted to go to Costco at 5pm!? In the middle of rush hour?? Is Cleveland a magical place that has wide open interstates at 5pm? (Even if you're doing a "reverse commute")

Since I’ve actually driven this many times, I’m going to need more details.
