I can see where a lot of his criticisms come from, but I don't actually mind him all too much. He's definitely got knowledge behind that noggin of his and he isn't wrong about a lot of these new technologies. I've seen many of them fall apart in person to be frank...

It's freakin youtube, who isn't harmless? Delivery is a big part of what makes a youtube personality watchable. I can see certain folks really identifying with Scotty, I'm just not one of those peeps.

All new technologies have issues. Remember early EFI? "Carburetors are WAYYYY better....."

Thanks captain obvious, technology with almost a century of development behind it to perfection is usually more reliable than new tech. Who knew!

Yup same here. My stance is that VW over engineers their cars hence why the crappy reliability, but their cars are fun af. Hyundai is simple and extremely reliable, but boring to drive. I love my GTI tho.

      agree with this !

Savage is about the only youtoober that i can watch anymore. The rest are just fluff. That dude in blue is alright i guess as well - borders on annoying however. Oh can't forget enginnering explained. He is also entertaining and informative (for the most part.

Besides the people doing car repair videos like eric the car guy and south main auto that is about all that i can stand watching.

savagegeese and engineering explained are the only ones I watch. Far less subjective than others, very technically informative and not at all annoying.

I f*cking hate Kilmer. Probably the most annoying reviewer and tip-giver, which he does on purpose; no one is that annoying without trying. Doug DeMuro is like the ads on facebook "20 things that will shock you about orange juice

Jason from Engineering Explained is good, but he sees it from an engineer's POV which can be flawed. I'm an mechanical engineer myself, but I look at it from an engineer's and mechanic's POV. That's why I have some harsh criticisms like Kilmer.

Yea, can't do more than maybe 30 seconds w/o wanting to punch him, which isn't right.

Reminds me of another old mechanic I know who is just as ranty and nutty. His energy is immediately jarring like that thankfully dead Rick And Morty show.

I used to watch Hoovie and Demuro, but I just can't stand them anymore. I can't really stand being yelled at by Scotty Kilmer either. The guys on TheStraightPipes I like a lot, but their videos are a little long and a little too detailed for me.

Currently, my favorite is Micah Muzio from KBB. I don't think his name comes up on this forum very often, but I find his reviews to be short and sweet, and his corny humor is right up my alley.

Here's one he did for the CX-3 that I enjoyed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5jsNs4SxsM

      Nah never liked Micah

I used to like Johnny Lieberman and Jason Cammisa in H2H from MT but idk why they both got booted or they left whatever happened. TheStraightPipes fills their gap though, since they are very similar in format.

I've used a few of his DIY videos for reference but they're not my main go-to. The description of the quirky uncle is accurate.

HAHAAHAHA @ description of demuro. Basically that guy in a nutshell. I was literally just trying to watch that guy last night about the new ford ranger...wife walks in about 10 sec after it started "who the heck is that, his voice is super annoying" haha

yeah i'm not a fan but he is popular for some reason.

What I meant by "harmless" was that I don't think he often* has dangerous advice on how to fix something, unlike some other DIY videos on YouTube. Sure, he probably won't have any videos on how to fix anything complicated made in the last 10 years, but at least his advice seems solid for the stuff he does cover.

*I have probably only seen 10 of his clips, so I could be wrong if there is some bad advice out there on the rest.

I find him obnoxious, and don't get why he has so many subscribers. Also, he really needs to clean his garage and driveway.

I hate his click bait crap.

"HERE'S THE SECRET VOLVO ISN'T TELLING YOU ABOUT THEIR CARS!!11!"

45 seconds later, Scotty reveals they're made in China. The rest of the 6 minute video is just more BS emails from his viewers.

I also find him incredibly superficial when it comes to recommending any cars. He's like those dumbos on r/whatcarshouldibuy. Avoid ANYTHING German, Nissan makes garbage transmissions, Mazdas rust, etc. Toyotas are GOD, his car has 240,000 miles and runs like a clock, customer comes with some horror story, etc.

I find it frustratingly old school and misleading.

But he's enthusiastic and having fun, can't fault him for that. Some of the technical advice seems to be sound...some.

I thought he was ok and I would watch his videos for advice sometime, but just the other day saw one of his videos where he was splicing in a repair on a brake line. First thing I noticed was he was underneath a car without a jackstand - just a hydraulic jack. Next, the fittings he was using for his splice specifically said not to be used for automotive brakes. After seeing that, I'm not so sure about him any more.

He days anything after 2004 nissan is unreliable because of renault

I admit i do watch him sometimes but his automotive knowledge is way off,

      "challengers devalue like a rock"

"people buy last gen supras and yank the 2jz out for drifting" no they don't

"honda v6 engines from MY2002 have cam problems"

I bet he never has seen a Renault with his eyes, let alone driven one.... Yes, they were problematic, especially in the 90s and early 2000s, but it has nothing to do with Nissan. Also Renaults mostly had issues with electrical stuff, not engines. Peugeots and Citroens were much more plagued with bad reliability back in those times. He seems to overglorify Toyota. Yes, they're great cars, but no car is perfect.
