Heaven forbid VET teammate race him to the first corner. Then we have to suffer people linking articles years down the road as examples of vET being slighted attempting to legitimize some action he takes on the circuit... for example. LOL
Do you have a link to an interview or a quote from either LEC or the team that ordered LEC to stay left? All I have so far is your word for it, and no matter how many time to re-arrange your words, they're still your words. You might be right, but you can also be pretty bias sometimes, so I'm going to need a little more.

It makes sense, as both Ferraris needed to stay inline to c0ckblock HAM out of P2, but I don't remember reading or hearing a team order for LEC "stay left." As LEC, I would much rather have my teammate in P2 than a driver from another team. Seems like common sense. Could have been a team order, I just haven't seen evidence of it.

Rain is one thing but a typhoon? I agree, ugh, high winds and torrential downpours does not make for a good qualy or race.

But mainly for the people living there, I hope it doesn't cause damage/harm.

Not the first time a typhoons has affected a race, iirc. Hopefully it won't be red flagged or cancelled outright. One of my favorite tracks.

Also, my initial comment was meant as a joke, but I can see how without high quality and funny photoshopped images it could have been misinterpreted.

Wasn't there a was a Japanese GP that had Quali and the Race on he same day because of crazy rain on Saturday?

Edit, 2004 wow. I didn't realize it was 15 years ago.

I think it was the remnants of a typhoon that caused the poor weather at the race that killed Bianchi.

Seems the storm intensified over the last 24 hrs. "The wind speed increased by 100 mph in only 24 hours," said CNN meteorologist Brandon Miller. "Which is nearly three times what is needed to be considered rapid intensification."

The current forecast says winds equivalent to that of a Category 2 or 3 hurricane will cover just about all of Japan from Friday Am to Sunday Am.

There was heavy rain (and other fluids) in Fuji in 2007.

The Rugby World Cup is happening in Japan right now as well. And it figures that Canada's chance at a first (and only ) win this year could be affected on Saturday.

So latest storm track info has the typhoon Hagabis parked right off the islands Saturday, and heading north a few hundred km off the islands by Sunday. The race may proceed, but it will be a wet one.

""Every effort is being made to minimise disruption to the Formula 1 timetable, however the safety of the fans, competitors and everyone at the Suzuka Circuit remains the top priority

"All parties will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates in due course."

F1's contingency plans for Saturday, when Hagibis is expected to impact Suzuka, will likely include a cancellation of track activity and a deferral of qualifying to Sunday morning, like in 2004 when a storm also hit the event.

Mercedes look really fast as FP1 concludes. Ferrari has a lot of work to do and I don't think RedBull are going to be in contention here at all if it is a dry race on Sunday.

P2 with 50 mins to go has a few surprises. Both McLarens in the top 10, Kimi p11.
Dead calm, no signs of the typhoon yet.

Saturday running cancelled in Japan – full revised timetable for Sunday

Weather has been the number one talking point heading into this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix, and on Friday morning it was confirmed that Saturday’s track action at Suzuka will be cancelled due to Typhoon Hagabis, which is set to pass by the circuit.

As a result, qualifying will move to 1000 Sunday morning, when the weather is set to have cleared, with the race taking place at 1410 local time, as planned. Saturday’s third practice session will not be rescheduled.

“As a result of the predicted impact of Typhoon Hagibis on the Formula One Japanese Grand Prix 2019, Mobilityland and the Japanese Automobile Federation (JAF) have decided to cancel all activities scheduled to take place on Saturday, 12 October,” read a statement.

“The FIA and Formula 1 support this decision in the interest of safety for the spectators, competitors and everyone at the Suzuka Circuit.”
Race time is the same (2PM local/1AM Eastern), quali is 10am local time, which translates to 9PM eastern Sat night. Not sure what that's going to do with the ESPN programing. It was originally on ESPN2, but will they move it to another channel? Not sure I'll be home at that time, so I'm not sure how to capture this with my DVR.

      Doesn't look like there's a FP3 anymore either.

Just as long as they let us know before too long so we can record "WNBA Wives Club"" or whatever else is getting bumped.

Edit - and apparently Grosjean bought himself a model of a Tyrell six-wheeler and is going to build it on Saturday now that his schedule is clear.

      https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/g...iardo/4556357/

While many plan to get some extra sleep, play video gamers or watch films, Grosjean has already decided that he will use the opportunity do something a bit different to everybody else.

“I have the Xbox ready to go but I also bought a Tyrrell six-wheeler as a small model to build,” said the Haas driver. “I bought the glue and went to the shop at Shiroko.

“They had an amazing radio controlled car that I wanted to buy, but I didn’t have the tools to build it. So I thought I would go for the small plastic one, the Tyrrell six wheeler and will glue it and do it.

"I don’t have the paint but will put the stickers on – and while the glue is drying I will play the Xbox a little bit.”
