George Russell ran over a sewer drain and ****ed up the tub on his Williams. Red Flag FP1 - will not continue.

And apparently, the recovery truck's crane arm hit a track bridge on the way back to the garage. The hydraulics ruptured, leaked fluid all over the car, leaving the crane inoperative to get the car off the truck.

      Thanks for linking the video

Man, that was a powerful hit from the sewer drain, it lifted the car up. Imagine if that happened during the race.

And I hate it for Russell. It's a shame we won't see anything that this kid can really do while he is in that car.

Baku being the noob street circuit doesn't yet have their act together like say... Monaco.

Yikes, doesn't Williams have an issue of only having two tubs right now? Can tubs even be repaired? being such a critical piece of safety I would assume when damaged enough they are a one and done type deal like the helmets, but I really don't know.

Yes, but they usually have to go through stringent inspections and recertification by the FIA

Not just street circuits either - it's happened at Shanghai twice over the years. Once during an F1 weekend, and another during a Supercars.

IMSA and IndyCar figured out quickly how important the track-staff welder becomes.

Based on FP2, Gasly's days have to be numbered. Obviously, we don't know what strategy they were working on, but both Toro Rossos are faster.

He hasn't performed up to par. I really hope Kvyat doesn't end up there though.

Yeah, a few pages back I was on the Kvyat train to replace Gasly but Kvyat seems to have not learned a thing and is a more aggressive Gross Jeans.

Now I'm hoping Albon will get the nod to replace "Ghastly"

I'd be ok with Albon or maybe even someone we aren't thinking of that already has a Super License

I don't think Fernando will want to come in and be 70 points behind the leaders. Unless it you were making a yoke.

Yoke or not, there are plenty of other drivers that could be had that are a) allowed to drive a Honda, and 2) would do much better for the price

no doubt about that. I had high expectations for Gasly. I genuinely thought he would do better, especially as he was doing well at TR. Then again, maybe Hartley was under-performing even more than I realized, as I was merely comparing Gasly to him.

I think Gasly maybe is trying too hard, but nevertheless, RBR needs a strong second car to maximize points.

Does Toto lend out Ocon to these guys? If I were him, I would, in the hopes that Ocon would do more to hurt the Ferraris, assuming Toto feels confident Mercedes can stay ahead of RBR and Ferrari throughout the season.

It would make sense to keep his mind focused, but I can see there being all sorts of contractual difficulties. I'd be all for it.

Damage to the Williams after impacting manhole cover.

There's also a video on Leclerc driving over the cover with his left side wheels and you can see it moving after he passes.

      Off topic...

~6 months ago I hit a dislodged manhole cover in a severe rainstorm at maybe 35mph and blew out both left side tires, cracked a wheel and banged up the underside of my Audi.

16-17 years ago I ran over a dislodged manhole cover at 70mph on a highway and it "cut" the fuel line and a whole bunch of other stuff on the underside of my Taurus SHO, car stalled out in a lot of traffic and I had a lucky split second to nurse it over onto the shoulder with no power steering, brakes, throttle, nothing.

Ask me what I think of manhole covers...
