I'd almost assume his drywall is frozen to the framework.

What a miserable life to lead.

Fix a car when he can't even fix his cars?

He probably doesn't even have a retirement. Can he actually afford a Cayman and an M5? Obviously not.

Look, after a couple of days off I was super excited to see this thread bumped. I was thinking there were pics of new low, but instead I have to look at pics of damaged drywall, hear about bad choices and look at a poorly lit picture of a cayman wheel well. I can not even describe the level of disappoint. I wish you people would get some drywall patches and get your **** together. You ****ing animals.

I see you also have the fine taste to eschew baseboards and let your floor covering run up the wall. One piece for lightness, rigidity, and speed. A tip of the hat to you sir.

Now that you have the suspension sorted, time to get that 245/40 17 set up on 40et.

So I got it done. Just needed a friend with a pry bar. Also needed a proper spring compressor.

I would not do this Kiz unless you have the same tools.

Funny side note - Once I got everything mounted on the car I realized I had put one of my bump stomps in upside down. Oh well, life goes on. I highly doubt it will negatively affect anything.

In the trunk you have to take paneling out, and then remove the sound deadening to get to the shock mounts. Not that big of a hassle, but kind of sucks because there's no right way to remove the sound deadening without taking apart the entire trunk, and that's not happening. So you tear it.

      Untitled by efrie004, on Flickr

Bottom of rear shock. Once you pull this bolt everything drops. With a little bit of effort you can just push down on the rotor and pull the stock spring out by hand.

So to start yesterday, here we go from the beginning. Sorry I'm doing this backwards, but whatever. Deal with it.

Jacking up the car. Notice the tight fit of jack under car at normal height.

      A few moments later

      Untitled by efrie004, on Flickr

First thing to remove is the nut holding the sway bar linkage to the strut.

      Untitled by efrie004, on Flickr

Once that is removed you then remove the 18MM bolt holding the strut clamp and brake line support in place.

      Untitled by efrie004, on Flickr

From there you can shake the strut and hub and it will just fall off.

      Untitled by efrie004, on Flickr

      Untitled by efrie004, on Flickr

Strut mount in perfect condition. I like seeing things like that

      Untitled by efrie004, on Flickr

So yeah, getting the struts and shocks out were no problem, taking the old struts apart weren't a problem. Getting the new struts together and the rear springs mounted was a huge pain in the ass. But only because I didn't have the right tool.

Car drives fantastic, it's very noticeable. It also looks much better. I'm sure the suspension will settle a bit more as time goes on.

I won't really know how great it is until I get in some twisties, but I imagine it will make a huge difference.

Trailarm bushings and subframe bushings come in next week, so that's when I'll schedule the rear diff, trailing arms, and subframe bushings to be replaced. I am NOT going to do that by myself.

Thanks for reading. I'd like a few more beers now.

Thanks for the write up, looks good. Found out today all the clunking in the front of my car is related to my coil overs. Think I will pick a cup kit up in the next two months. Where did you order yours from?

Looking forward to hearing your impressions once you've put some miles in on twisty roads.

So we were talking about a 330 for a little bit. My buddy Bryan just got an E46 330i and took it on the rally. His comment? "It's a slow momentum car." Yeah, not worth upgrading for 30 hp.

I looked many places. ECS has this kit for $800.

For some reason I got to clicking around on Tirerack.com and realized they sell suspension stuff too, I ordered this from them. The kit was $599 - that included UPS Ground shipping.

I almost got the sport kit, but instead of 1.4" up front it was 2.1" and 1.7" in the rear instead of 0.7", plus the shocks and struts were different as well. I assume the ride would be even stiffer, and I thought maybe with the 16's it would rub.

The ride, for the 10 miles I've put on them, is significantly firmer. You feel much more in the road, and the car feels better planted. I read several reviews on BMW forums and many members that had cars with the "sport" option noted the touring kit that I got still lowered their car a hair from the sport suspension, and the ride was firmer, overall feel much better. So it's not an insignificant upgrade. Definitely worth it.

Check out Tirerack for prices, I was really surprised at how cheap they were.

I was thinking about ordering a house kit from ECS tuning, but for $630 I'd get Koni orange struts (no thanks) and H&R sport springs. They list their kit as lowering the car 1.4 and 0.7 as well. Which is what H&R says their "touring" kit does. So I don't think ECS is actually throwing the H&R sport springs in, I think they are the touring springs. They still feel great though.

FWIW - I meant to order the kit on Tuesday, but I left it in my cart and never did. So on Wednesday afternoon at 3 PM CST I ordered the kit from tirerack.com and it showed up with standard free shipping on Friday afternoon. $599 to my door, nearly $200 cheaper than I could find it anywhere else.
