Went to a local smallish C&C on Sunday. Some neat stuff, but this Taurus was definitely the coolest car there. I did some searching around for it's story (never found the owner at the show) and found out that it's one of the four "Ninja Turtle" race-prepped SHOs for the Firestone Firehawk Endurance Series. Pretty neat. I still love those crazy intake manifolds.

Here are some more photos of the turtle cars:

Super cool to learn about this. I went searching, thinking, "OK, what did the stock intake runners look like, though?" Then I understood what you meant.

I love that bundle of snakes. I love that it's in a race-prepped Taurus even more.

Here's another cool pile of intake - different car entirely but still cool:

      HOLY ISHT! You found Raphael!!!!

For those who don't know, the Ninja Turtle SHOs have been a part of SHO legend ever since the SHO was launched back in 1989. THese cars were legendary back even in the SHO Registry and mailing list days.

It's super cool you actually got to see one.

Awesome car with a ton of history, that's a great find OP. I'd love to whip that thing on some back mountain roads, all 7,500RPM (in street guise, more with this?) screaming in glory.

I remember getting a fun ride along at a track day in a warmed over SHO. Big car, a lot of movement, but that motor! Don't see many of them around anymore.

My first experience seeing a SHO in action was on the Unicoi highway just north of Helen, GA (SoWo 7 I think). Saw this thing get air over a switch back coming down the mountain. Have dreamed about one ever since.

There was a short period of time where both my wife and I had SHOs as DDs. When I sold my last one i posted it on the SHOforum and 3 people contacted me within 24 hrs and one sent a check for full amount sight unseen and flew in a week later to pick it up. Gen 1&2s had quite the following back then.

Gen 1, 2, and 4 are the ones to get really, 3rd gen was plain straight up hideous (sorry if anyone had it, but just can't deny it).

This is so insanely cool. I’ve never seen pictures of these race SHOs before.

It seems a bunch of people are also fascinated by race prepped tauruses so I thought I’d share an experience of my own.

Just after finishing school my roommates and I raced this Taurus in ChumpCar (two 12 hour endurace races in a row). It was a 3.2l SHO & 5 speed swapped wagon that my one friend daily drove for several years and thought it would be a fun send off to enter a race with it once it was retired.

We were definitely out classed in ChumpCar.... The wagon was very tired to begin with and it was bone stock other than the required safety modifications. Other than the cage, seat, harness, etc the only maintenance we did was brake pads and maybe bled the brakes. Tires weren’t even in the budget so we raced on several season old Motomaster all seasons They didn’t last long at all. We were up against ratty lookiong but well prepped e30s, e36s and civics so saying we got our asses handed to us is an understatement. Nonetheless the wagon could hold its own on the straightaways and was a complete blast

(Note - I can’t take credit for the pictures. I saved them to my computer after finding a thread about that particular chumpcar event. I forget who originally posted them so I apologize to the photographer if you come across this.)

This thread reminded me of the most famous SHO owner 20 yrs ago...and would you look at that, he's still got his.
