Ford releases the first all-new 2020 Bronco teaser — It's gonna have two (or four) doors... Seriously!

So, all that stuff about the Bronco just being a refreshed Everest?... Nevermind!

From a big press release about all of Ford's future plans: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthre...nd-EVs-five-vehicle-architectures&p=110613353

Press Release said:
Ford also plans to drive growth with two all-new off-road models: the new Bronco and a yet-to-be-named off-road small utility – both designed to win a growing number of people who love getting away and spending time outdoors with their families and friends.

“Ford helped start the off-road phenomenon and has majored in off-road capability for decades – from the Bronco to the Raptor,” said Jim Farley, Ford president, Global Markets. “Now, we’re ready to reclaim our rightful place as the off-road vehicle leader.”

...

Next-Gen Hybrid Electrics: Part of Ford’s new strategy includes going all-in on hybrids to bring more capability to customers of our most popular and high-volume vehicles like F-150, Mustang, Explorer, Escape and Bronco – and serve as a hedge for customers against higher gas prices.

Ford’s new hybrids will offer customers more space than today’s hybrids. On the F-150 Hybrid, Ford will lean in to capability, such as the low-end torque for extra pulling power and the fact it can serve as a mobile generator. Mustang Hybrid will be all about delivering V8-like performance with more low-end torque.

“Hybrids for years have been mostly niche products but are now on the cusp of a mainstream breakout,” Farley said. “The valuable capability they offer – plus fuel efficiency – is why we’re going to offer hybrid variants of our most popular and high-volume vehicles, allowing our loyal, passionate customers to become advocates for the technology.”

Ford’s new hybrid system is designed to be more efficient and less expensive than previous generations. These lower costs – achieved through supply base relationships, using common cell and component design and by manufacturing motors, transmissions and battery packs – with the intention of lowering cost of ownership for customers.

2020 Ford Bronco To Come In 335 HP Raptor Guise Too?

Not long after it was reported that the 2021 Ford Bronco will get a turbocharged 2.3-liter four, a source close to the development of the vehicle says that a Raptor variant is also in the works.

The Fast Lane Car claims to have received word that the Bronco could also be sold with a twin-turbo 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 alongside the aforementioned 2.3-liter. This engine, already powering vehicles like the Edge ST and certain F-150 models, could pump out around 335 HP and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm) of torque when used by the Bronco, figures certainly fitting something bearing the Raptor moniker.

If a Ford Bronco Raptor does see the light of day, it would likely be more off-road-focused than lesser Bronco models. Consequently, it would feature bespoke suspension components, new wheels and tires, and likely some more aggressive styling akin to the existing F-150 Raptor and Ranger Raptor. A 10-speed automatic transmission is expected.

At the same time, one source states that Ford is considering fitting the Bronco with the Mustang’s 5.0-liter Coyote V8 as well. That sure sounds enticing, but a decision has yet to be made.

The Blue Oval is reportedly preparing the Bronco to go head-to-head with the Jeep Wrangler and, as part of this, the off-roader should be offered with a removable top as a homage to the original while also providing customers with one more way to spec out their new SUV and enjoy an open-air driving experience similar to the Wrangler.

Ford Buys Trademarks to Bronco Big Bend and Other Rugged-Sounding Names

Ford isn't taking any chances on losing out on sweet trim names for upcoming Bronco models and special editions of its popular F-150 pickup and not-as-popular Ranger pickup. Trademark filings uncovered by a host of sources reveal that Ford has filed for "Bronco Outer Banks" (Ford Authority), "Bronco Big Bend" (Motor 1), and "Bronco Sport" (also Ford Authority). Earlier this month, the intrepid copyright sleuths at Ford Authority also found a filing for the trademarks "Badlands" and "Adrenaline," reportedly for use with new off-road and street performance versions of the F-150 and Ranger.

It's been a while since we've had any activity in here. Glad to see some fresh news.

^^ OK that looks positively tiny. If it's truly that small, I'd be cool with it having the 2.3 EB / 10AT of the Ranger for sure. It would be faster, more capable, and still turn 35's just fine probably. I love offroading but so much of it is so expensive as vehicles keep getting bigger and more powerful. If some version of the new Bronco truly is like a Wrangler 2-door sized vehicle but without the Jeep tax, that would be amazing.

Take a gander at the exposed sheetmetal pictured above: you're looking at the rear end of the upcoming Ford "baby Bronco" SUV, albeit in unfinished, body-in-white form. Our spy photographers managed to get a shot of the new crossover's production body, which—when combined with earlier spy photos and leaked images of this new model—give us a pretty good idea of what the car will look like when it debuts in the near future.

TFL reporting:

Removable doors with no tools required
Doors will be able to be stored in rear cargo area in a pinch. Looks like they will be frameless and windows need to be rolled down before doors are removed.
Retractable soft cloth sunroof like the Jeep JL Sky One Touch roof
Roof removable in its entirety
Manual transmission option

Baby Bronco to be called Bronco Sport.

They have the Wrangler squarely in their sights on this one. It should be good.

They surely will grab some Wrangler folk, just not the hardest core off-roaders that demand SFA.

It'll be postponed.

I sure hope not. I am very much anticipating this. Could very well replace the WK2 (as I have said a few times in here).

@ChiltonDIY

Not sure about you folks, but I for one am tired of automakers teasing out new product introduction for literal years. (Bronco, C8, Demon, etc)

Ford has been dripping info on the Bronco for so long that I have had to follow it for 3 different jobs over the years.

These are the dates for major upcoming Tier 1 autoshows (Chicago is not Tier 1 globally but useful for US centric debuts like Bronco)

Nov 2019 - Tokyo odd years (Ford pulled out this year and won't be returning)
Nov 2019 - Los Angeles (MACH E debut)
Jan 2020 - CES (more MACH E variants???)
Feb 2020 - Chicago (Bronco debut???)
Mar 2020 - Geneva (Ford pulled out last year and probably won't be returning)
June 2020 - Detroit (Baby Bronco debut???)
April 2020 - New York (my guess is 2021 Mustang hybrid)
April 2020 - Beijing/Shanghai alternating years (can't imagine Ford not having anything to show here)
Sept 2020 - Paris/Frankfurt alternating years (Mondeo "Outback" debut???)
Sept 2020 - Texas State Fair (F-150 debut)

A few more details were leaked a few days ago that didn't make it into this thread.

https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2019/10/29/leaked-details-on-fords-2020-bronco

Details on Ford’s 2020 Bronco have been sparse, but information often trickles out about the automaker’s upcoming products from third-party companies working alongside Ford. According to the profile for an engineer at a consultancy firm, one which appears to be working with Ford on the new Bronco, the truck will be equipped with a variety of advanced off-road features including the following: Off-Road Navigation, Adventure Capture, Convoy Communications, Real-Time Tire Pressure Monitoring, Rear Seat Occupant Alert, and On-Board Scales.

Off-Road Navigation is not a surprising feature, since Ford has already deployed the system overseas on the Ranger Raptor. According to Ford Europe, the feature works by leaving “digital breadcrumbs” in the navigation system so that drivers can find their way back after leaving the beaten path. On the Ranger Raptor, the system drops a virtual pin on the map every second, producing a pretty detailed log.

Adventure Capture sounds like a data recorder application—possibly an off-road version of some of the race track performance data recorders currently on the market. It’s likely this system captures video from built-in cameras and overlays data such as pitch and roll for each video clip.

Convoy Communications is likely an application that allows for communication between Broncos that might be traveling together. There could be some sort of radio link between the trucks, but our bet is that the system will be integrated either through the infotainment system or via the Ford Pass app.

Real-time Tire Pressure Monitoring is fairly self-explanatory; however, it’s important to note that immediate updates would go beyond the standard tire pressure monitoring systems available on new cars. This system would be of great benefit off-road, where quickly diagnosing a deflating tire could mean the difference between a mild inconvenience or a more permanent camping trip.

Rear Seat Occupant Alert is slowly spreading across new cars and is a way to make sure that children are not left in the rear seat when the driver departs the car.

On-Board Scales, on the other hand, are fairly unusual when it comes to passenger vehicles; they are mostly relegated to large commercial vehicles that need to abide by weight limits on highways. At this time, we’re mystified as to why or how a Bronco driver would implement such a feature—maybe there’s an application during setup or perhaps off-road.

Based on this small leak of features, it sounds like Ford is preparing the Bronco for serious off-road duty and wants owners to be able to capture their off-road adventures. We have reached out to Ford to confirm these features, but a representative stated they do not comment on speculation about future products.
