Ford also plans to drive growth with two all-new off-road models: the new Bronco and a yet-to-be-named off-road small utility – both designed to win a growing number of people who love getting away and spending time outdoors with their families and friends.
“Ford helped start the off-road phenomenon and has majored in off-road capability for decades – from the Bronco to the Raptor,” said Jim Farley, Ford president, Global Markets. “Now, we’re ready to reclaim our rightful place as the off-road vehicle leader.”
...
Next-Gen Hybrid Electrics: Part of Ford’s new strategy includes going all-in on hybrids to bring more capability to customers of our most popular and high-volume vehicles like F-150, Mustang, Explorer, Escape and Bronco – and serve as a hedge for customers against higher gas prices.
Ford’s new hybrids will offer customers more space than today’s hybrids. On the F-150 Hybrid, Ford will lean in to capability, such as the low-end torque for extra pulling power and the fact it can serve as a mobile generator. Mustang Hybrid will be all about delivering V8-like performance with more low-end torque.
“Hybrids for years have been mostly niche products but are now on the cusp of a mainstream breakout,” Farley said. “The valuable capability they offer – plus fuel efficiency – is why we’re going to offer hybrid variants of our most popular and high-volume vehicles, allowing our loyal, passionate customers to become advocates for the technology.”
Ford’s new hybrid system is designed to be more efficient and less expensive than previous generations. These lower costs – achieved through supply base relationships, using common cell and component design and by manufacturing motors, transmissions and battery packs – with the intention of lowering cost of ownership for customers.
Hooray. Still bummed that this wasn't revealed as planned (though I COMPLETELY) understand why.
Our plan was to get an idea of packaging and pricing, then sell either our GTI or CX-5 to Carvana over the summer while the used car market was (formerly) hot. Prior Carvana offer gave me about $5k equity in my 2 year old GTI, which was great. Yours truly planned to snag a small pickup for DD duties, then put an order in and take delivery in Q1 2021.
I suspect said plan now has $5-7k less capital available to move forward with
I've said it before but I'll say it again, I'm seriously considering selling all my other toys to get one of these, I have a feeling I'm going to need an off-road Bronco in my life as soon as ****ing possible
I'm wondering if this will get Jeep pricing, or if finally having some competition will drive down both. That is say a year from now, because I'm sure the first set will probably be loaded and going over MSRP since it seems to be so well received.
So for those who don't know... a "Crawler" gear is a low-low, so you can basically let out the clutch, at idle and not give it any gas, and it will just crawl away slowly, like a tractor.
You would only use it offroad and I bet it's locked out unless the transfer case is in 4LO already.
I made the mistake of starting in 1st gear once in a 1990 F150 work escort truck with the granny gear (4 speed, but really a 3 speed with one extra lower gear added for "1st").
I wound out the inline 6 almost immediately, then shifted into 2nd which was just another 1st gear.
Felt like a doofus.
First gear will probably be a normal 3.75 or 4:1, but C will probably be 5.5 or maybe even 6. NP435s in 80s F150s had a 6.68:1 1st gear in a four speed. So it was essentially a three speed because you never used first on the street, you just started in second, which was 3.5 or so. Reverse in the 435 was almost 8:1. Weren't whipping any Rockford turns in those.

The Wrangler JL manual trans has a 1st gear ratio of 5.13:1. The Crawler ratio in the Bronco I think has to be at least 6:1, if not deeper than that, to justify its existence.
I'm very curious what the t-case ratio will be. Will it keep the standard 2.72 from the Ranger, or will they have a 4:1 or similar to match the Rubicon?

The reveal of the all-new Bronco lineup will now happen on Monday, July 13. This is instead of July 9. We are sensitive and respectful to some concerns raised previously about the date, which was purely coincidental.
This is unbelievable and inexcusable. It's proof that Ford hates blacks and is engaging in systemic racism by celebrating July 13th, the anniversary of one of the deadliest attacks on black Americans in history. Absolutely inexcusable. They did this on purpose because they're so angry and bitter about having to celebrate Juneteenth that they went out of their way to find a day to celebrate white workers slaughtering over a thousand recently freed black slaves.
Pray the Bronco is a massive success at bargain basement pricing, because it'll likely mean the Wrangler will be priced more reasonably. Their lack of competition from a consumer standpoint has only really helped used prices.
Competition is a good thing, but I'm willing to bet this is priced right in line with a Wrangler, meaning north of $50k for a higher-but-not-top-of-the-line-trim that has acceptable equipment levels needed for a daily.
I built a Sahara JLU and it was like $52k, and I wasn't going nuts, just pretty normal for what I'd want in a daily. I expect the Bronco to be the same, let's face it - tarted up these will be $65k.
The cheapest Wranglers I ever see on a lot or listing is around $34k before ttl. That's for a barebones, 2 door S. Will some competition drive down prices? Never, it just won't happen.
I know I'm a broken record but if we got the Suzuki JIMNY here for around $25k well equipped they would sell every dang one of them as fast as they could make them.
Right now, people just buy a used Jeep and I have so little interest in a used FCA product.
Oh I know all the reasons it can't and won't come here (#1 of which is that Suzuki doesn't sell cars here anymore.) But none of that changes how much I want it.

Eventually, I'll just put-up-or-shut-up and buy an old import to get the small, slow, simple 4x4 that I want.
When renderers have no clue what they're doing... You can clearly see in the pics that the body panels and shoulder line are sort of rounded/softened. And render is very sharp.
Ford will introduce the Bronco during an event it will stream on its website and its various social media channels starting at 8 p.m. July 13, but fans will also have the opportunity to learn about the new off-roader on ABC, ESPN, and National Geographic. The three Disney-owned television channels will each air a three-minute film showcasing a different aspect of the Bronco shortly after the model makes its debut online.
I think it might come down to personal preferences. Some people like the less popular choice because they don't want to see themselves coming and going on their drive to work everyday. Or there are already 5 Jeeps of various flavors on their block. If I were in the market, driver and passenger comfort would factor in. I love Wranglers and I wish I were the kind of person who wheels off-road. If they were a bit more comfortable day to day, I'd consider one because I like the idea of, "I could go anywhere if I wanted to". But there's too much compromise for regular driving and commuting for me.
