      LED DRL / Fog Lights?

So has anyone done this? I have a set of LED lights that are pulling about 12W. As you can guess, that's not enough power to make the dash warning go away since the stock H7 bulbs are 55W. So I put in 2x 5ohm 50W in series (=10ohm 100W) and that is still enough power to make the dash warning go away but the load resistors are still too hot to just stuff in the back of the assembly. I'd really worry about melting wire insulation. I've thought about letting them dangle in air but I worry there would be too much vibration and the wires will eventually break. Most guys that do this just screw the resistors to metal part under the hood but there is no metal to be found in behind the fog light housing. My next thought was to get 2 more load resistors and see how low I can get the power to keep the dash warning off as well as split the power over 4 resistors instead of 2. People that do this mod for turning flashers rarely worry about heat dissipation because the duty cycle is like only 50% and they aren't on long enough to heat up anyhow.

I put in LED DRL in place of the halogens. I recoded the central Electronics module 4 LED drl and also have the blinker function where the side with the blinker active DLR turns off

I have retro projectors and the light out is bad as cheap hids and ballasts. Id like to go LED. But i heard it cant be done in projectors. If I use the high beam halogens as LED wondered if that could work? What set up and type of LEDS you use? Brighter than halogens?

On the bi-xenon lights the inside reflector does nothing but DRL. So I'm not concerned with anything besides that. Hi and low beam are all done in the outside projector. To avoid error codes the central Electronics had to be coded to LED DRL.

So I think I found the perfect compromise for the load resistors on the fog LED's

I used 4x50W resistors on each LED to split surface area up and help keep it cooler. The 4 I used were 2x 5ohm and 2x 2.5ohm. That's 15ohm when in series (but parallel to the LED) and it brings up the power just enough to fool the warning light. Mind you there is still a few seconds after a cold start where you get the warning but it goes away pretty quick. Bench testing at 14V kept the resistors warm but no where near the burning hot that you get with a single 5ohm.
