Love the color. Now you just need to spend money faster and build quicker.

Ha! I will get a nice bonus and tax money in late Feb-early March so things will really happen then. Until then, I will likely order the Watanabe's and various engine smalls.

My dad got me a set of RB26 ITB's with the plenum for Christmas!! I will have them blasted and cleaned up and replace the hardware. Might even send them off to get opened up from 45 to 49mm.

I found an NOS rear inner driver fender liner and had to snatch it up since both my rear fenders have a little rust behind the wheels that will need to be cut out and replaced with new metal during the respray and I know any painter will prefer to have an NOS inner when doing that job. Shame he didn't have the passenger as I probably need that side more. I also found all the front windshield trim in gunmetal from an 89 car. That will make restoring them much easier than starting with the chrome/polished trim. Just need to find the side, quarter window and rear window trim next..

The S13/S14/Z32 subframe mounts shipped and I found a buyer for the engine/trans so it seems I should be able to start stripping the car very soon. Will get it down to a glass out rolling shell for the subframe work and a partial roll cage. I plan to strip, shave and paint the engine bay myself. Might even spray the interior and jams myself to save money.*

It would lose efficiency, but it kinda looks like you could bolt 3 Webers or Mikunis on there!

I seriously thought about running carbs as plenty do on the N/A Nissan motors but I really want fuel injection. I also want to run a dual tune with switch. One for pump and one for race gas.

Happy holidays, I saw this on my 914 board today and thought it was fitting to post here

I agree, carbs look cool but there's no beating EFI if you can afford it. I'm going to run carbs for now until I can afford EFI on my 914/6 engine.

      Really? Are they bolt-on?

I agree that injection has too many advantages, certainly a dual tune setup is one that carbs cannot begin to match!

Not easily but it's done fairly often in Japan and there are also a few guys in the US running SR's and KA's with carbs.

Thanks for posting this stuff. I'm enjoying the build.

This car was a big inspiration for the engine choice.

      Niiiiice.

Do they even make carb'd intake manifolds for that engine or were the carbureted ones adapted/fabricated? My knowledge of Nissan doesn't completely die with the Datsun name, but I'm far more familiar with that era.

This build is going to be awesome. It should sound incredible with the If be.

One question though? What's the deal with cars like the one you just posted running without a timing belt cover?

It makes sense if you are still tuning the car and playing with adjustable cam gears, but otherwise seems silly to me. ANYTHING could fall in there and be catastrophic.

True but unlikely. Lots of people run with open covers. I will also be running open trumpets with no filter so will just need to keep things tidy.

My dad just bought this EFI ITB setup for his lime 240z. I think the full package price for everything including ECU and base tune is like $10k. That guy who owns that company, Datsun Spirit is one of his best friends.

Or, you can have the best of both worlds. Carb look, ITB capability.

Well, not that carb specifically, as it's a downdraft. In Weber-speak you'd be looking for DCOE carbs.

      $10,000?

      I'll say it again...

The first time I saw those my first thought was "They're so perfect I'd build a car around them!" My mind immediately went to 240Zs and BMW 2002s.

Those are awesome! Wish I could run them but too late!

My dad has a base line on that car. 175 iirc. The kit he bought includes throttle bodies, manifold, trumpets, carbon fiber intake, heat shield, injectors, ecu, wiring harness, tune, fuel pump, fuel lines and the install for $10k.

I plan on sending my itb's off to have them opened up to 49mm from 45.

Little more. I think I should be able to pull the motor and trans by Monday. I already have a buyer.

The artist sent another update. He thought I meant regular gold. But it looks pretty good like this too. He is going to change it to safari gold and I asked for an off white as well.

Haven't pulled the motor yet but shouldn't be long. Cleaned up the garage though.. Also got some side skirts and brackets from an 89. Need to strip the paint.

Just talked to my machinist. He is really excited about this build! He has already designed something to open up the valves and made a bridge to open two valves at once. He just asked for the oversized head gasket so he knows how much he can unshroud the valves. He is planning on welding metal into the combustion chamber to reshape it as well. He said "This is going to be a fun one". Pretty cool considering he is a strange guy who never shows emotion and mostly deals with 1000-3000hp engine builds.
