I had an always-garaged 2010 Golf TDI that VW bought back. Six months later VW sold it to someone for nearly double it's blue book value.

Yes, i read an article recently about the necessary precautions being taken to keep these planes in good shape while they're waiting for a fix. Moving them so the tires don't get flat spots, oiling components of the engine, turning on the computer systems etc.

If i can find the article i will post the link.

edit: Not the same article i read, but has similar info.

I bet all of the VWs sitting had to have their headliner replaced. Mine started to fall on my mk6 at four years old

But VW does a similar program with the stored TDI, at least mine did. Since 2/20/17 it was maintained every 30 days. Then every 6 months or so a quality check was performed. 10 months in there was an "oil check". A year in they washed it and checked the fuel. My interior and paintwork is pristine. No evidence of rodents. Not sure where my lot was, but I'm positive it wasn't a desert environment. The rotors and brakes were replaced as well as all fluids changes, new wiper blades, etc. I'm still on the OE tires (contis), but fighting with the dealer to get them replaced.

Im surprised VW didnt cover them with some sort of reflective but breathable barrier to inhibit some of the issues.

There is a tasty 2016 A6 TDI with only 400kms on it sitting at my local dealer. Its advertised at $54000CAD, $40700USD. I want to check it out, but I'm wary that its just sitting around collecting dust for a few years.

The ones in GolfTango's post are a better deal considering the mileage, imo.

There was a huge lot between Co Springs and Pueblo and now there are hardly any left.

Looks like they're not having a hard time clearing them out. After they're all sold, I'd be curious to know how much VW actually spent on all this.

I love Opera Red. It is a nice color in person and you don't see many of them on the road here at least.

I'd super-curious to know what happened to mine.

Punching in the VIN on https://vwdieselinfo.com shows:

Vehicle (VIN) Included in Settlement: YES
Modification Approved by EPA and CARB: YES
Modification Completed for this Vehicle (VIN): YES
Vehicle has Extended Emissions Warranty: YES

So unless "Modification Completed for this Vehicle (VIN): YES" translates to it being crushed anyway I assume it's still alive out there. 2011 Golf TDI 6MT 4-door. Visually easy to spot for the combination of xenon headlamps plus the rare-ish black bodyside molding, white exterior.

Googling turns up nothing useful to show if it's been for sale. WVWNM7AJ3BW290180 if anyone has access to something more detailed than Google.

Well I guess that means it found a home and I won't be able to re-buy it back again anytime soon.

Carfax gives a zip code of 85215, which is Mesa, Arizona, if you want to cruise the streets looking for your old TDI.

You can get this type of registration info for free by using: http://www.mycarfax.com

This doesn't surprise me as it is nearly identical to what VW and Audi require for dealer inventory cars from what I remember.
