Growing up, my dad always wanted to get a decent stereo with a good record player. Unfortunately, due to money constraints that had never happened.

By the time I got to the age where I could by my own stuff, LPs were replaced by CDs and that's the route I've taken.

Now that I am old, and my son is really into music we've decided to get ourselves a record player and added a bunch of LPs to our collection.

So now, the set up consists of a 1978 Technics SL-1800

      A Phono pre-amp

...and a headphone amp, called LittleDot MKIII.

I even made a cheesy slideshow of me unpackng it, because apparently, it's "The thing" now.

      So, what's yours ?

No pictures yet, just moved the turntable to a different spot.

I found a 4 x 4 Ikea Expedit on craigslist to put my records in, and my Technics SL-1300 on top of it. It's hooked to a Kenwood KA-9100, Denon 2910 CD/SACD player, Nak 1, and Nak 1.5 tape decks. I guess I don't have a tuner. Speakers are JBL L166's.

A cartridge that my record player came with, appears to be either original or quite an old one. In fact, Orfoton stopped producing VMS 20E MKII quite a while ago.

So I decided to order a modern replacement, which is Ortofon 2M Blue, as well as a Technics headshell that accepts 2 screws instead of the original 1.

Let's see if that makes a difference in a sound, as most of the records that I have now seem to produce a LOT of sibliance whenever there are heavy vocals involved.
