I did. That is a big job. Replaced top, tension straps and the tension cables that run above the side windows.

It's sweet finally having a clear back window.

Are these tops semi-auto or full manual?

Nice work, I am envious of being able to complete jobs like this.

Most of the 325's are semi auto.
The 318's are manual. Made the job easier.

I don't think I ever posted this before. This car also has the factory tonneau cover and wind blocker.

That tonneau is so hilariously 80’s dorky, I love it. You and your wife need to rock that thing wearing matching nylon track suits and era appropriate Sauconys.

Edit, I can’t tell, are those holes for people, or is just a shadow?

That is the bumps for the headrests, there's a small one for the steering wheel as well. I just have it laying in there loose. It it were snapped in it would be taught. There's a zipper between the front seats so you can pull back the area over the driver side. You could drive with the rest of it in place.

Hahah right, I was envisioning the tonneau in place with cutouts for people where those shadows are from the headrests. Imagine driving around with just your head poking out. How awesome would that be?

      Thanks!

It's a 10 footer with it's share of dings and scratches. Which is about perfect IMO, looks great but no fear of using it.

Yeah...I'm jealous. The later E36s are full auto and I'm nervous to even attempt tension strap replacement as the microswitches/aliignment can get messed real easily.

Sigh. I was 100% serious about checking it out next summer when when we go back to the cabin. But you'll get *much* more for it on BaT, I don't blame you

Sorry it didn't work out. Timing is right to list it now.

I will say the reserve is really low. If you end up stealing it I can help find, and get it into storage around here for the winter.

Oh, absolutely. Looking at the recent sales - with your factory extras and overall condition, I see yours going fairly high. Don't blame you one bit

Odds are the awesome market right now fetches you a great price that's higher than I want to pay, but on the off chance it doesn't come through with a crazy high price for you...well I put a calendar reminder and I'll be bidding.

Of course if I were to win, I hope you don't mind if the car sees an M5x swap.

I would be stoked to see that. Something along those lines was my plan before I found the coupe.

If this was a 325, I'd skewer you for this! But the M42, while a fine engine, isn't that inspiring.

May I suggest the humble M30 to keep it period correct? Or, if you want to go 24v, the N52 is becoming swappable with various mount/pan kits and DME flashes, and is superior in so many ways to the M5x motors (weight, power, efficiency, cost/availability, tuning).

Oh agreed. M30 would work great too. And I wouldn't be opposed to an N52, but as it turns out, we already have one small N52 powered BMW cabriolet with great steering, so I'd be wanting to find more differences to justify the parking space is all.

Haha awesome. I'll absolutely be keeping an eye on it, but the way BaT is lately I'm guessing the auction won't need my help.

It's always sad to see a nice car go, and that's a damn fine car.
