The wife and I ordered a new soundbar and TV for our family room to hang on the wall. The TV in question is the Vizio M series 65" smartcast. The price in Canadian I paid from Costco(only place to get one here currently) was $2300 plus taxes. I looked up the same TV in the US, and at numerous outlets it's $1300. I could have bought the 70" and still paid less. Why are TV's so much more money in Canadia?

There's also a 30% exchange rate going on. Most goods base their prices on USD

Uhh, yeah, that. I like the subsidizing igloo comment, yeah right, we cannot write off our mortgage interest like most states (all?) can either, and we don't have a crazy huge market of dirt cheap homes unless you want to live in the middle of nowhere where it gets -30 in winter.

When it comes to many things like telecommunications, airfare, Canada is among the most expensive in the world. Consumer goods are not as expensive compared to the world but way more than the US mainly because they know they can ram us.

      USD $1,300 * 1.30 = CAD $1,690, so there's half of it.

But yes, **** costs more in Canada than in the US, with few exceptions. Smaller market for one, and also captive to fewer retailers. Day shopping trips to the US are a thing for a reason.

Yeah you can only really use mortgage interest as a deduction on a rental property or business use of home. Your own personal mortgage is not something we get to claim - I actually had no idea you did in the states, anywhere.

The only way you get money from the government to live somewhere in Canada is if you're status, or you live in one of the truly frozen wastelands in the north, where in the summer the sun never sets and in the winter, it never comes up. And minus -60*C is normal.

I know this thread is archaice but here are some true reason why they are a lot more expensive in Canada.

They are priced by the company to be higher no matter what

Bringing them to Canada add more shipping cost (factories tend to ship to the US then from US warehouse to Canada)

Which also mean to get CSA approval, they have to spend even more money.

And remote requires batteries? There is a stackload of paperwork and extra tax needed to be paid to the Canadian government.

The reasons above make the Canadian pricing to be at least 50% to 70% more especially for low margin products such as TVs.

I guess it shouldn't be surprising that a baby boomer has no concept general internet forum etiquette.
