Whoa! Thanks for the kind replies everyone

Another reason for the lack of photos on the trip is that I was driving on an "unregistered vehicle permit" and I wasn't allowed to stop anywhere.

Thanks. She was a little reluctant to get in at first but seems to like it back there.

Good idea - I'll put that on the list. The pedal has improved but still isn't 100%.

Late animal pic. I stopped at a geese crossing yesterday. Well - 24 geese. I'll get some Aussie animals if I get the chance.

Congrats. The car might not be 100% perfect now but as they say the perfect Porsche is the one in your driveway/garage. You got a cool/interesting color and I'm sure as you develop a deeper relationship with the car you will get all the little issues sorted and enjoy one hell of a sports car.

The LSD is great and people certainly seek them out but they are a wear item and are rarely serviced. At this point most of them need clutches and they get great traction with or without them.

      Recent work to the car:
I replaced the 12v alarm backup battery. It was dated 1994.
I've mounted the number plates properly with lakin number plate brackets. They're beautifully made for something so utilitarian. Best of all - I didn't have to drill any holes in the bumpers.

Great history, great car and great trip. It reminds me back in 2000 when I picked up my first Porsche 911(964) Carrera4 Cabriolet. I also did a huge trip from Sourthern Spain to the UK where I was stationed with the USAF. A friend of mine had a purple violet 993 just like yours.

The 993s are very expensive here in the US. My last opportunity to buy a bargain yellow 993 was in 2004 when a local Porsche dealer in Tucson was selling a low miles 95 993 for less than $40000. I went and purchased a new Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8 MR instead but I will always have the 993s in my heart.

That sounds like a brilliant road-trip I'm sure the scenery in Spain, France and the UK was nicer than my trip.

Most aircooled Porsches have doubled in price over the last 3-4 years. I wish I'd got in earlier!

Official update! I've done a little work on the car.

      • Replaced a bulb in the tacho because the left side was dim.
      • Touched up a lot of the stone chips and scratches - with varying success. I still need to wet sand and polish most of them.
      • I got locked out of the luggage compartment. The cable had come loose from it's mounting points and had no leverage over the latch. Easy fix, but a bit frustrating!
      • Got the glove box light to work and adjusted to door to make it fit better.
      • Wet sanded and polished the rear reflector to get rid of UV damage. Looks better and beats paying hundreds for a new one.
      • The passenger rear height adjustment mechanism isn't functional. I lubed the drive shafts and the mechanism spins by hand. I connected the motor to a 12V supply and nothing happened so I reckon it's the motor. I've adjusted the seat into a comfortable position and I'll worry about that later.
      • The battery drains if the car hasn't been used in 4-5 days. The car is pulling .1 A with the key out. I've pulled every fuse and relay I can find but it's still pulling power. Another weird thing is that the 12V+ and ignition circuits seem to be shorted together. The reverse lights, sunroof, power seat motors all work when the key is removed. Strangely though, the stereo only works with the ignition - but it keeps the time and presets. I figured the issue would be with the stereo so I removed it and the fuse but I'm still pulling .1 A. It could be the "harness" but . . . . it scares me. It could also be the overly complicated alarm system but I have no idea how to isolate it.
      • Speaking of the stereo. . . It's a cluster f*ck. The front speakers were barely working. Out of the four fronts - two had broken connectors. The wiring is crap too and was spliced and twisted together and then covered in tape. The rear speakers were rooted and not even connected so I've removed them for now. I've improved the connectors on the speakers and it sounds better. I die on the inside when I look at the head unit wiring.

I put a stereo in my MK1 when I was 17. I'd never done it before, but I'm an artisan compared to the idiot who last worked on the 911. I'm not sure what the plan is here but I think I'll scrap everything and start fresh.

The passenger seat was frozen stuck and I couldn't adjust the angle of the back-rest. I lubed up the mechanism and got it to move a little. Just enough to find a bunch of broken glass fragments stuck in the gears. Works great now!

I found a 50p piece and some more glass in the drivers side.

I went on a hunt for Aussie animals for you guys. I found some road kill, but that's in bad taste so this is the best I can manage - for now.

And I took it for a run up into the hills.

Next job is to replace the rear stone guards. I think I'll go for flat black again.

Anyway, more to come as things get fixed. . . . .

Man, I love the color! Porsche does obnoxious colors better than anyone.

I passed a metallic teal Camry today in my 944 and got thinking how good that color would look on a 944 or 911 with a grey or tan interior... and how awful it looks on "normal" cars!

But can it make a run to the petstore, that's the real test?

Gorgeous car! Love the color. There are too many boring colors out on the road.
      Is that a Carrera 4?

For the longest time 911s were just kind of "meh" to me...didn't even perk my eye or emotions. Caught the bug last summer at a German car meet. Planning on getting a 997.2 Carrera 4S (hopefully in an interesting color like Porsche Racing Green or Macadamia Metallic brown) as my next car. Figure it's just the natural step in progression after a GTI.
