To me, that's the biggest allure of having an EV. Even if I charged my EV everyday at home, it will cost me mere $35 a month. I spend that much every week filling up my wife's X1.

At this point... it's the very survival of gasoline powered cars that's a stake for next few decades. My guess is that most passenger cars in future will be all electric or at least be a hybrid.

I'm finding that the biggest question I have to answer is why I bought it. The answer is why not? It perfectly fits my driving scheme for 355 days of the year. While I was working at my desk for 9 hours today I was collecting energy to drive home on someone else's dime. I'll do the same tomorrow and be able to travel all weekend on that charge. We already have a midsize ICE sedan for long trips. But honestly my wife's commute could work with an EV too.

I'm certain our Accord will be replaced with a car that has at least partial battery power. I think there are tons of people who could make one work in their households but they aren't yet ready to embrace it.

I charge my i3 at free 240v charging station at Whole foods near my house. I rarely buy anything there, but I charge my car there 99% of the time. Since it's in Texas (the brodozer capital), I never see anybody there charging either. Gotta love Texas!

Thanks! Wasn't sure about the color in photos, but it's great in person (less blue than in most pictures).

Yep. I can either walk home in 20 minutes, or stay for an hour to hour and half inside Wholefoods and hang out. I usually just work on my laptop while charging.

Yeah, I think the Leaf is the only air cooled battery still on the market. Most have gone with some type of liquid cooling.

The Volt has a double cooling setup. One for the range extender, one for the battery system. See lower middle and upper left:

First real full tank of fuel used on a regular commute basis: 643.7 miles on 8.33 gallons pumped = 77.3 mpg. That's driving ~75 on the freeway, too...as if it was a normal car (not being very conservative in how I drive it).

This is almost my plan should I buy a Tesla. I live in an apartment most times with street parking. But the Supercharger is about a 15 minute drive away, at an outlet center. Plug In, grab a coffee or whatever for an hour, and go home 90% charged.
