I just bought a 98 Jetta VR6. The guy told me it was running when parked, sat for 3 years and now has no fuel. He told me it was the fuel pump relay. I replaced the relay and still no fuel. I checked all connections, fuses ect throught the fusebox and under the hood.

Today I checked and there is no power to the pump. I ran a jumper wire to the pump and it started running. Tried to start the car and nothing. I checked and now I am not getting spark. What could cause no spark and no fuel at the same time?

I have read the forums for hours and what I am getting out of it is that it could be ignition switch, cam sensor, or crank sensor? Does anybody have experience with this issue? I have hardly any time to work on this and dont want to be replacing parts to find out that wasnt it.

      Any help is greatly appreciated!!

could be far more simple than replacing parts. sat for three years, potential corrision relating too a voltage drop. pull the connectors off the cam and crank sensor pop them back in (make sure they are clean and look for damaged wires) and crank it over again. most of the time if a vehicle has sat for a long duation of time its usually a voltage drop and not a sensor issue. id also replace all ther fuilds, engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, clutch fluid, etc. that stuff breaks down and becomes volitle too the seals.

So I spent literally all day yesterday messing with the car. I went through and unplugged and looked at and cleaned every single plug from the motor, to the fusebox, to the fuel pump and nothing. I pulled a crank and cam sensor off one of my other cars and nothing. A whole day wasted for nothing. Any more ideas? I buddy said ignition switch but I dont wanna spend more time and money just to get nowhere. With kids, no time, and other projects I think I might call a junk yard and have them haul it off.

honestly if its going too be this diffacult yeah id do the same, not too encourage you its just what i would do. its not an ecm issue givin it knows too flip the solenoid for the starter and crank the engine over. potentialy could be the ignition system like your friend said man. i know these furoms are only so helpful, when worse comes too worse gotta call an auto tech too diagnose and solve the issue.

Ope the ecu and see if the chip is in its socket properly

Thanks for the replys everyone. Basically this was my buddys car that was meticulously maintained. He sold it to some kid and he paid to have the chains and clutch done. I dont really know much else. My buddy that previously owned it called me and told me the car was for sale again. Knowing the car I wanted it so he got me in touch with the kid. The kid told me that it just stopped running one day. He said he replaced the pump because it wasnt getting fuel. Then it still wouldnt start. He thought it was the fuel pump relay. When I got it home all the relays were out of place so I arranged them back where they are suppose to go. Then I realized it had no spark. My buddy who originally owned it said he saw the kid selling the C2 chip from it. I then checked the ECU to make sure a chip was there and the stock chip was in there. So thats where I am at with it right now.

I have a mk2 vr6, Corrado vr6, 95 GTI vr6, a truck, wifes car, and 2 kids. Basicly I only have a couple hours a week to work on this along with everything else. I guess thats why its easier to give up then keep messing with it. I only paid $500 for it and it has KW V1 coilovers and magnaflow exhaust. The car is really nice and I really wanna keep it but now its just a pain thats in the way.

it probly is something simple but yeah with what u just said I would probly get rid of it too... but u cant scrape it sell it to someone who has the time to get her back up and running.... at very least keep the motor....or sell it and scrape the car.... I just hate to see another one die....

I'll probably kick myself when I figure it out. Probably the simplest place I didnt look, lol. I will try to mess with it some more this Sunday. It is such a clean car I really dont want to get rid of it.

Does anybody think it could be the ignition switch? On my other mk3 the headlights and windows wouldnt work. I replaced the ignition switch and all is fine. Could it be bad and not giving power to the pump and or ignition?

Here is a pic of it in its prime. Looks the same without the wheels.

So what was the problem? Sucks when we find the solution of the problem but never share what fixed it.

I'm having this same exact issue. 94 Jetta 2.0. Drove it home a few weeks ago, and it has not started one time since. No fuel or spark. Fuel pump runs with jumper wire but not with relay. It cranks hard but no spark for some reason. The car had sat for around 3 years prior to this. This is my first post btw well probably first post to any online forum haha. I'm dying to get this running but not having much luck right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
