The NASA Goddard Space Flight Center is in Greenbelt, even closer:

Highly Recommended. If you go here, shoot me a PM before you go.

Also, there's the NSA's Cryptology Museum up the road near the NSA/ Fort Meade.

I guess you've been there since they changed the menu? I really do like their Resurrection. Their cherry beer is great, but it's out of season now.

      Whoops!

In that case, check out DC Brau's brewery.

      http://www.dcbrau.com/

Take a drive to Annapolis for the day and eat by the docks. You'll be in MD, you need to do crabs.

You're a Metro ride away from most of the Smithsonian Museums (on the Orange line, sorry )

Nat's Park for a baseball game.

Ellicott City is still ~45 min away.

The Woodlawn, MD I'll be in is near College Park.

My office used to be in Landover, which is really close to that. Much closer than College Park.

Go to the Arboretum. It's awesome. Even better considering where it's located.

Go to the Greenbelt metro station. Take the Metro towards downtown.

      1. Get off at the first station, which is College Park. Walk 3 blocks to the little College Park airport. There's a small museum there. It's the oldest operating airport IN THE WORLD. The Wright brothers flew out of there for a while. I went through the procedures (background check, certificate validation, DHS fingerprinting) to get permission to fly in there, just because.

      2. Continue on the green line all the way to L'Enfant Plaza. When you exit the station at L'Enfant, you're 2 blocks behind the National Air & Space museum on the National Mall. Air & Space, Natural History, and American Indian museums are all all right there and very cool to see, if you're not into historical art. Then, of course, you can visit the Capital on that end and walk to all the monuments on the other end.

For beer, the Phoenix Emporium is very good - they usually have over 150 different bottled microbrews. They also make a pretty decent burger if you're hungry.

Another place on Main St is The Judges Bench - a good selection of craft beers on tap (changes often) and excellent wings, too.

The Korean place that Village Idiot mentioned is either Shin Chon or Honey Pig - neither are in historic EC, but both are fantastic if you are interested in trying real Korean BBQ.

As far as driving roads - go north and west of the Ellicott City area and there are plenty of nice country roads - nothing too scenic - but lightly traveled and nice for a drive.

If you decide to come into EC, PM me and first one's on me.
The second one's on me. I'm always looking for an excuse to get out.

RFD! The people that own it used to own the Brickskeller. It was apparently in the Guiness Book of World records for having the largest selection of beer in one place. It's not more unfortunately.

Goddard itself isn't open to the public. You need a badge to get on the Center. But the Visitors Center is open to the public and has a decent amount of cool stuff in it. It even has a Science On the Sphere, which is pretty cool in its own right.

The agency FKA National Bureau of Standards (also in Gaithersburg) used to have a good visitors center, lots of nerdy science stuff, an atomic clock, and inventions, now it's closed "for security reasons."

      Also, for Elicott City.

Main st. Annapolis I think is your best bang for the buck. Lots of great places, but this one is an institution.

to all of this in most areas of Gorgeous Prince Georges County.

You won't be too far from my hood either.

Check out Franklin's in Hyattsville if you have the time. Don't bother going out in College Park for a drink/dinner as it is pretty much the lamest college town I've ever been to. I can ride my bike there in ~15 minutes but I'd rather metro into the city.

There are a lot of great places for a beer a short walk from stops along the green line. A few of my favorites are The Red Derby, Meridian Pint, and The Looking Glass Lounge. Annapolis is worth the drive if you have never been. Main Street Ellicott City is also nice but don't drink too much and drive as Howard County Cops get bored and looove pulling people over. Well, don't drink too many and get behind the wheel ever but you know what I mean.

Yeah the APG tank park and ordnance museum closed to the public a few years back. Last I heard is that they are relocating to Ft. Lee in Petersburg VA - about 10-15 miles south of Richmond.

Emmit- If you are out for a drive and want to see a creepy location enter 5242 Glenn Dale Rd, Glenn Dale MD, 20769 in your GPS. It's an old TB hospital, I wouldn't recommend leaving your vehicle though, it is patrolled by a few security guards.

If you are feeling like German food, there is a pretty good place outside of Annapolis - www.oldstein-inn.com and it is about 30 minutes from the Woodlawn/Lanham area.

Right now is the tail end of soft shell crab season. Nothing beats a soft shell crab sandwich on the eastern shore.
