This sucks. I'm kind of sick but not fully. It feels like I have a cold except my sinuses are clear. I had a pounding migraine last night and slept for 12 hours. Currently I'm wanting to go out and have a weekend but I feel like that's probably a terrible idea and I still feel like crap. Joy.

      TL,DR: I declare victory!

I really, really, really, nevar (well mostly) lose data. Especially data that cannot be replaced. Like personal photos, be they digital or analog in origin.

I will spare you the story of resurrecting Disney world photos from a dodgy CF card by placing it in the freezer. (It was EPIC).

I digress, back in 2013 (my kids were 11), Halloween photos...

Apparently, I had shared them with all the neighbors using the cloud storage of the time, sugarsync or syncplicity, or copy.com, whatever.
Regardless, I had them all backed up on my NAS boxes and they get a sync every night in the wee hours....or so I thought.

In the early days I had one fault tolerant NAS, populated with disks from a single manufacturer (presumably of the same vintage). Disk fails, swap, re-sync the raid!, all is good. Except in one case, two disks failed at the same time. Volume be deded.

That's when the 2 NAS system, primary backed up to the secondary entered the fray, and each with different hard disk manufacturers installed.
Even through all that, non-replaceable content (family photos) remained intact as I also back those up to various PCs in use at the time. Even chucked a disk into a safe deposit box now and again.

Human error - still the problem, somehow, I only shared these photos with an email link to neighbors using a now defunct cloud service. I had nevar copied them to the the PrimaryNAS or backed them up otherwise.

For quite some time, I had set a task for myself to search all the old hard disks in my office drawer....
      #1, nothing.
#2, caused Win 10 to throw a fit.
      #3, pay dirt! F! yeah.

So, apparently KidL has been a secret fan of monster trucks. There's one coming up in Detroit in a month. Mrs. DonL decides we should get tickets.

Eff you, ticketmaster. Seriously, eff you and Ford Field and Detroit and your stupid fees and charges.

Went to the used car parking lot today. It's where you pay to park there and still sell your own car. Saw an 09 Clubman S that looked decent but a little pricy and I hear they're problematic. But I always liked those.

Also saw a 2001 E39 530i for $4k. Mileage was a bit high at 178k but if I could get the price lower I wonder how it would be to own? Probably shouldn't right?

Might go look at a B6 A4 tomorrow with 78k miles that is in my price range. I'm all over the place because I like so many cars but the leaders seem to be E46, E90, B6 A4. all sub $5k.

Going to look at a Matrix XSX tomorrow. And a MkVI.

So far the Matrix is winning.

A Matrix is a super tempting used-vehicle buy for me.

I've always shied away from them previously because they get pretty abysmal highway mileage, but now that I'm not pulling almost 100 miles a day on the highway round trip...

Abysmal highway mileage is not a thing in our house. The wagon and BRZ pull 30 on a good day. MR2 gets about 35. GTI is less. So anything over 28 is fine.

      Do it.
I have a 2006 Matrix and have been trying to find a replacement for a few years. Nothing really comes close to matching its utility.

How do they handle small utility trailers? Say one suitable for picking up a couple loader scoops of mulch or making a dump run?

According to our Secretary of State website, these are available. NEO isn't. It's probably on another Matrix running around here.

Morpheus is available as MRPHEUS, but people won't get it and wonder who the hell Mr. Pheus is. Versions of Trinity are taken.

      This might be delightfully obscure:

Hoping the height will go down a little. Probably not completely settled yet. It’s been 4 days and less than 100 miles. Might take it for a spin to put some miles on the suspension. It’s getting aligned tomorrow. Very dirty.

Well, it's 6:2****ing early on a Sunday morning and I'm wide awake, woke up because Mrs. vette stepped in canine excrement, turns out stepvette didn't let the dog out before running out to work, weird since I heard video games beforehand Cleaned up the mess, completely woke up because of the fury of the mop, there isn't even 16 hours of football coverage for me to get a jump-start on ignoring. Then, tonight I'll end up falling asleep early and be well-rested for Monday, like an adult, this dog**** threw off the whole rest of the weekend.

Yeah, it's just crap. A, "convenience fee," for me to print my own parking pass on my own printer? GTFO...

Affirmative on the hearing protection. KidL has sensory issues with noise, so she has a good pair of ear muffs, and we're both definitely bringing ear plugs at least. KidL will bring her ear muffs to a movie, too, because they tend to crank the volume to 11. I've been careful about my hearing for a while now. Mrs. DonL was pretty shocked the first time we went to a drag race and a Top Fuel car launched, so she gets it, too.

It's a Toyota, I don't know that much would be wrong unless it was abused or neglected.

Had dinner and drinks with friends last night (soda lime for moi) and then went to a local play. Very intimate and fantastic production. A very nice time was had. I REALLY needed that.
