Both of my parents' cars have them. They're awesome, especially in a convertible.

Experienced them in my cousin's Lexus IS, never liked them always made me feel like I wet myself.

He didn't like them either. We would frequently turn each other's AC seats on as a prank, by the time you noticed them, it was already too late.

I don't do well in hot weather so I loved them in the IS 250 I tried them in. They don't get too cold in the full blast setting I noticed

Perhaps it is "necessary" only because leather or leatherette (vinyl) seats are so common these days.

Know how I know you've never sat in them?

I want these so badly. Nothing like playing soccer or going to the gym and sitting down on hot, black leather seats

What are the cheapest (future DD) cars where these are available? Vent or AC is fine.

It really depends on the seats. I have seen some that simply have a computer fan hooked up with a few small channels in the foam for the air to travel through.

If I get leather seats I think Ventilated is a must. If they are cloth like I try to get then it is no big deal.

Leather seats are what make heated and ventilated seats a near necessity! For my next large SUV they will have to have them as my wife is always cold and I'm always hot I can turn on the seats to cool and she can turn them on for heat.

Cheapest used cars are going to be depreciated luxury cars.

Cheapest reliable used cars are likely a Toyota Avalon or Lincoln MKZ.

I like the idea of ventilated seats but I don't think I want the leather that comes with them.

Probably the Kia Optima that I mentioned. I think the sticker price on the one we drove was 28-29k?

probably because it didnt get hot and humid enough to use it
its just like if i turned on the heated seats in our 40° f "winter" it feels like i shat myself driving.

I would trade my heated seats for them. Or I would trade the driver's heated seat for a cooled one, and keep the heated one for my fiancée; that way we are both happy

My mom's IS has them and they are great.

Oh man, and if you're a little sweaty, and you fire it up, the moisture seems to make a better thermal connection between your ass and the seat. It'll give you chills.

Yes. A/C doesn't reach every part of your body that has the propensity to sweat. Assuming you have a job where you need to look somewhat professional, being not-sweaty, especially in swamps like Atlanta, where the humidity and heat index can easily reach Bigfoot's crotch levels, is a godsend. Anybody who thinks cooled/ventilated seats are a gimmick is a stupid moronic idiot who shouldn't be alive, much less driving. I don't care how they did it back in the stagecoach day....there's a reason they're all dead.

They are not a gimmick. They are awesome and I wish my car(s) had them.

Love them. Variable speed, blow cold air in the summer and hot in the winter.

      Damn

In this case, the new Infiniti Q50 is dead to me: no cooled seats.

If cooled seats were a gimmick, I'd overlook it. But it gets hot here, and this may be a deal breaker

I didn't even know this existed. Sounds amazing for us back-sweaters.

I know this exact driving position, some of the miserably humid days here have me driving like that.

I would as well, I love my heated seats, but would far prefer to have ventilated seats. Heated steering wheel for winter, ventilated seats for summer, that works for me.

some chick i dated had them on a lincoln suv.

she said they were awesome when she first got the car, but after like a year or two they were silly. she said the air flow channels all plugged up and the seats diddnt flow much air at all.
