I am interested in what people think that when our generation gets old as to what will be considered "classic's" to us from today's car's.

Post up some pic's of what you may consider to be a classic.

I'm sorry, the cars you posted are belly-button cars. Some of the special editions may be collectible, but the rest of production will just be used cars, IMO.

In 30 years, the Aveo will have a bizzare cult following.

What do you mean by today's cars? Like only new cars or cars made in the past 15 - 20 years?

I agree, and elaborate. In 30 years there will be a classic racing series which will include the Aveo, Sonic, Versa, Fiesta, 500, Caliber, and Rio. On first airing, its Nielsen ratings will exceed all shows except Antiques Roadshow which, by coincidence, will be appraising all of the cars appearing in the series.

After 20-25 years all cars are classics.

I love how this exact thread pops up every 2-3 months---as if something is going to change in that time. And to be honest, this is a bit of a loaded question. How do you define "classic"? Is it simply something where there will be a following or something where the value of the car will at some point outpace inflation and appreciate in value?

I mean the mkI GTI, by most accounts I've heard is a classic car. Is it worth much? Even the lowest mileage, best condition cars are only about the price of a nissan versa, if not a little less.

I think at some point, everything becomes a classic car. But only few cars will ever appreciate in value.

Not sure they'll make it to Antiques Roadshow. In 30 years I'd expect to see MK1 Rabbits and such be called "old timey". Good call on the TV program itself though, AR will never go away

It scares me to think that there is a slim chance that a "donk" may become "classic"

I have thought of that, I don't think it's going to have much of a following honestly. At least not as much as the Chevette. I find that everyone knows what a Chevette is, it's the butt of many jokes, RWD, almost indestructible (I tried, it won), and it's shape is iconic. Being sold under other names in other markets helps as well.
The Aveo seems to be anonymous, did not have nearly the same sales, nor did it seem to make much of an impact in other markets even under other names.

Tomorrow's classics will probably at least consist of some of the cars that are heavily sought after right now in the tuning world, which almost anyone can name off the top of their head. It will bring us future old farts back to the good old days just like it does with the Muscle Car era guys that have aged.

very early on in this thread, no effort was made to distinguish the term "classic" from "collectible"... they are not synonyms.

not all classics are collectible, and not all collectibles are classics...

I'm not a grammAr teacher, but you clearly are in dire need of one. I just think that when you don't know the difference between lessons and lesson's, it makes you appear stupid and makes everyone not listen to what you have to say.

Seriously, do yourself a favor. I guarantee it will help you in your life both on and off the internet.

So do you just insert an apostrophe before a trailing "S" on every single word, just to be safe? Every English teacher you ever had experienced a petit mal seizure when you started this thread.

      As for your request:

Similar to the Z3 and Z4 posted above, I think this short-lived Solstice iteration will prove to be a highly sought-after collector's item for a variety of reasons.
