$45k for 200 hp, sounds like typical BMW robbery. I can't believe they even still offer a 528i. Guess some people just have to have to have a BMW, no matter what's under the hood.

Wait, what?
BMW is supposed to be the HP-per-$ leader? Ohhhh....NOW I understand what German cars are all about. I'd wasted all these years looking for complexities and subtleties, balance and refinement, solidity and sophistication.
Turns out I was supposed to be measuring with the Mopar yardstick.
Apostrophes are important.

MORE PAH durrrrrrrrrrr..... How the hell are you supposed to drive with 200hp? durrrrrrr....
I remember when the E60 came out and the hell storm that ensued, now the E60 is thought of as a nice looking car and the new one is ugly... Right.
Not to mention this thread is about the base price going down
This design is much cleaner and coherent than the E60, it's distanced itself from Bangle and come back to a BMW design aesthetic. It looks evolutionary.
Sounds to me more like people being humans, reactionary at first because they're scared of change, then after a while everybody calms and the design growns on them. This is what will happen.
When they come out with an M, and people start to mod them this will be a CL darling.

TCL cracks me up.
Everyone hates the new E and now a few months later they seem to like it. Everyone loves this when it leaks on the net and now everyone hates it.
Looks way better and way more like a traditional BMW than the fugtastic Dame Edna E60. The interior is quite a bit nicer as well.
Nicer and a cheaper starting price =

Do not want

Overall I like the new styling better than the old one, however, it looks really ill-proportioned in this pic with a really short front overhang and quite a large overhang in the rear.

It still looks nice and they haven't really done a ugly 5-Series.

You are only 20% off on the car's power (it has 240hp) and some people still like the non-FI BMW engines as they are much more fuel efficient and reliable. It still gets 0-60 in 6.6sec which is far from fast, but not embarrassing by any means.

My first car did 0-60mph in 19 seconds, yet I didn't had any trouble keeping up. It was an aircooled bug.
The most powerfull car that I've owned was a Chevrolet Chevy C2 with a 1.6 4 banger making 100hp, on a 850kg car. Not fast but felt really fast compared to my bug.
Yet 6.6 to 60mph "Is far from fast"? There is no doubt people are spoiled in regards to power.

man, some of you guys just like to complain for the sake of complaining.
first, everybody was crying because Bangle ruined the iconic e39 look with the e60
now the 2011 5 series looks bad compared to the e60.
aahhh
I've seen the car in person and I think it looks phenomenal. Very clean design. Reminds me of the pre-face lifted e46 and how clean and muscular it looks.

I always hated the E60 looks, and I still do today. It never grew up on me, and I still think that the headlights are hideous.
While the 2011 may not be as good as the e39, it is definitely an improvement over the e60.

I'm surprised by all the bitching and moaning about the styling of the F10. The much-loved E39 was somewhat "boring" even when the design debuted in 1995. It's an incredible elegant design that has aged extremely well, but let's not kid ourselves — it wasn't groundbreaking. The E60 was radical and much reviled. It took a while, but it grew on me. I love the E60 front end and the only weak part in my opinion is the rear end. That's fixed with the wagon body.
The F10 reminds me very much of the E39 in that it is evolutionary and very similar to other contemporary BMW sedans. This isn't a bad thing. It's a bit derivative but I think it will age well, and who knows, maybe some day it will be loved nearly as much as the E39.

Agreed. My E39 was about a second slower to 60 than that and it was still a fine car....more than enough power to make it an effortless highway cruiser. Outside of a few enthusiasts, most buyers probably don't even know the HP/TQ figures on their car and probably don't use more than 60-70% of their engines power on a regular basis anyway.

I think 60-70% is generous, especially when we are talking about cars with 250+ hp.

I think you'd use about that much on freeway onramps and during passing maneuvers, but what do I know.

Xenon headlights will be a stand-alone option on the 528i.

There goes the 1400$.

Not quite. Xenons are a $900 option on the 2010 528i in the U.S. They are standard in Canada though.
